Things aren’t looking great for Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) in Coronation Street next week when she is sacked from her job as Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) carer.

Before Ken and Cassie took a trip abroad, the Barlow patriarch caused quite a stir when he revealed that he had won a large sum of money on premium bonds.

This caused a dramatic row between Cassie and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), who accused her of being a gold-digger.

When Cassie and Ken return from their holiday, Ken has some bad news.

Having looked at his finances, he tells the Barlows that he’s going to have to let Cassie go, leaving the family relieved.

Ken tells Cassie that he’ll no longer be requiring her services, but how will she react?

Fortunately for Cassie, her period of unemployment doesn’t last long, when Ken falls ill and offers her an extra pound an hour to accept her job back.

However, the family aren’t best pleased by his decision and, flanked by Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) and Steve, Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) orders Cassie to sling her hook and stop sponging off Ken.

Tracy is adamant that she will look after Ken in Cassie’s absence, but when he suffers a nosebleed and admits that he feels terrible, she is forced to take him to the hospital.

Elsewhere, Steve spells out to Cassie that she has been sacked, but will the family regret their decision?
