Corrie Tommy star concerned for soap future as he hints at dark Tracy affair twist

EXCLUSIVE: Coronation Street hunk Matt Milburn has warned viewers to keep an eye on his character Tommy Orpington as he attempts to break things off with Tracy Barlow

Coronation Street favourite Matt Milburn has shared his concerns for his character Tommy Orpington.

Over the past few weeks, ITV fans have been gripped to their screens while the former footballer has been locking lips with Steve McDonald’s (Simon Gregson) wife Tracy McDonald (Kate Ford). But when the fan-favourite returned from his trip to Paris a day early, the doting dad accidentally walked in on the pair getting cosy in the florists.

At the time, Steve didn’t think anything of it when the pair sheepishly walked out of the closed shop together, but things don’t stay secret in Soapland for long. Less than a week later, Steve’s friend Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) and his wife Sally Metcalfe (Sall Dynevor) discovered that Tracy had been enjoying a fling with the decorator behind her husband’s back.

And to add insult to the injury, Weatherfield footballing legend Tommy has been an idol of Steve’s for years. Still unaware of their affair, Steve surprised his wife with a proposal, asking her to renew their vows just as she was about to spill the beans about her romance with Tommy.

With viewers gripped to their screens to see how the messy affair will play out, Matt has warned fans that his character could be in grave danger. Speaking to Daily Star and other press, he shared his concerns for his character after learning that Tracy had killed her ex Charlie Stubbs back in 2007.

He told us: “I think he needs to really tread carefully with how he’s going to proceed with this relationship knowing that Tracy’s got a penchant for acting out. I think he needs to be a little bit careful. I don’t know if he does know that [she killed Charlie], it’s a good point. I’m not sure. She’s quite forthcoming in letting Tommy know about other people’s murderous intentions and things that they’ve done.”

He went on to suggest that fans may get another glimpse at Tracy’s dark side later on in the gripping storyline. Matt teased: “But it’s a very good point that I’m not sure that Tommy does know the full history there, so yeah, that could be explored.” It comes after the soap star lifted the lid on his real-life footballing career away from the ITV show. After years of playing the sporting favourite on the soap, the TV star has revealed his hidden footballing link to his on-screen character.

He told us: “I mean I never played at a massive level before, but I’ve always played football and I still do. I played at a reasonable standard, just amateur football. So there’s that connection “I think if you can’t be a professional footballer, the next best thing has got to be acting as a professional footballer, especially when that’s a local hero.”
