Coronation Street’s Julie Goulding has shared her reaction to finding out that her character, Shona Platt, is unfaithful. The actress has been a mainstay on the ITV soap since 2016 and has been involved in numerous major storylines over the years.
From suffering a brain injury to narrowly escaping being killed by her own son, Shona’s stint in Weatherfield has been anything but dull. This week, it was revealed that she cheated on her husband David Platt (played by Jack P. Shepherd).
For the past month, viewers have seen David manipulating and lying to Shona in an attempt to prevent her from seeing her son Clayton (portrayed by Callum Harrison). Clayton, who murdered David’s ex-wife Kylie (Paula Lane) in 2016, reached out to Shona from prison this year.
David intercepted, continuing his deceit by disposing of letters and deleting emails from the prison. However, in ‘true’ soap opera style, Shona discovered the truth this week and was livid, reports Plymouth Live.
A heated argument between the married couple followed, but Shona was arrested for assaulting a prison governor earlier in the day. After being interviewed by Kit, Shona was released and instead of returning home, she hit the town.
In Friday’s episode (December 6), it was evident that Shona was concealing something significant. In a shocking twist at the end of the episode, it was revealed that Shona had spent the night with Kit.
Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has opened up about her initial reaction to discovering her character Shona would be unfaithful. In an interview with Plymouth Live and other media outlets, she recalled: “It was Jack [P. Shepherd] who told me about it.
“He texted me saying ‘you cheat on me! I was like ‘Oh no, who with?!’ and he went ‘I’ll give you a clue, he’s massive’.”
Julia jokingly admitted she initially suspected George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) before learning the truth. She added: “And then he said it was you [Kit], and I was like ‘Oh right okay. That’s not too bad! ”
Like many fans, Julia was shocked by Shona’s infidelity, saying: “I never expected Shona to cheat on David. Eight years, eight years they’ve been together! And she’s always been faithful, she’s literally never looked at another man.”
