Coronation Street fans are in for a treat this festive season with dramatic storylines set to unfold on the popular ITV soap.
One character’s departure is hinted at after nearly two years, as they’re presented with a fresh opportunity away from Weatherfield. In another twist, a resident is rushed to hospital following a sudden collapse.
Adding to the drama, one character finds themselves under arrest, with two others implicated. Here are the top seven spoilers for Christmas and New Year on Corrie…
Gail Platt’s departure
In forthcoming episodes, Gail Platt, portrayed by Helen Worth, will bid farewell to Coronation Street after 50 years, but not without some turbulence, reports Lancs Live.
As Gail readies herself to marry Jesse Chadwick and relocate to France for a new beginning, she remains oblivious to her family’s deception that could potentially derail her Christmas Day nuptials, particularly as her mother Audrey Roberts delivers a heart-wrenching ultimatum.
With the Christmas Day wedding fast approaching, will Gail finally find her happily ever after with her sixth husband Jesse, or will she be heading to France alone?
David and Shona Platt’s turmoil
Recently, Shona Platt found it difficult to deal with David Platt’s dishonesty regarding his visit to her son Clayton Hibbs in prison, leading to an intoxicated encounter with police detective Kit Green.
In forthcoming episodes, David grows suspicious of his wife but mistakenly points the finger at ex-brother-in-law Adam Barlow after finding aftershave in Shona’s bag that wasn’t a Christmas gift from him but is worn by Adam.
David insists on sharing a birthday drink with Adam, who unknowingly downs whisky while David sips water. The situation escalates when Shona and Sarah arrive, leading to David accusing Adam of having an affair with Shona, resulting in a heated argument and Adam falling down the stairs.
In subsequent scenes, it seems David might discover the ‘true’ offender as spoilers hint at a confrontation between Kit and David. Upon returning home to face questioning from Max and Lily, Shona reveals how David stopped her from seeing her son.
Later, David devises a scheme to trick Kit into admitting his wrongdoings concerning Nathan Curtis. However, Kit sees through David’s plan and decides to take matters into his own hands.
David’s situation worsens as he faces pressure from the Radcliffe brothers to return stolen money. Kit revels in this, warning David that he’s back on the Radcliffe brothers’ hit list and needs to be careful.
Shock arrest
Nick Tilsley has been persisting with his secret affair with Toyah Battersby, despite previously being engaged to her sister Leanne Battersby. However, a vengeful Leanne is plotting to make the pair pay for their betrayal by framing them for fraud.
In forthcoming episodes, Nick returns from Tenerife only to be shocked by irregularities in The Bistro’s accounts, including a series of payments made to TLH Holdings, leading him to freeze the account.
The drama escalates when an unsuspecting Toyah arrives at work, thrilled about Nick’s return, but is taken aback when she is arrested by Kit on suspicion of theft and fraud by abuse of trust.
A stunned Toyah insists to Nick that she hasn’t stolen anything from The Bistro and suggests that Leanne is setting her up. Will Nick believe Toyah?
Later, after peeking into Nick’s briefcase, Leanne is incensed to find a wrapped Christmas gift for Toyah. This leads Leanne to visit the police station where she presents Craig with a stack of gifts from Nick to Toyah, implying they are co-conspirators.
The situation takes another dramatic turn when the police interrupt Nick’s mum Gail’s wedding, stating they need to question Nick and Toyah about a fraud allegation.
As Kit presents Nick with the account from TLH Holdings, Nick assures Kit he’s never seen them before. Meanwhile, at the station, a heated argument between Toyah and Leanne erupts into a physical fight.
Later in the week, Nick seeks legal advice from Adam and Alya, who suggest he investigate to prove that Leanne framed him and Toyah. At the same time, Toyah tries to explain to Leanne that they never intended to hurt her.
The situation escalates when Amy Barlow accuses Nick of sending flirtatious texts while he was in Tenerife. This leads him to review some CCTV footage, where he notices that Leanne has two phones.
Soon, they discover that Leanne could potentially face jail time, prompting Toyah to urge Nick to drop the charges. Later in the week, Leanne encounters Nick, Toyah and Sam, who reveal they’re heading into town to celebrate Nick’s birthday. How will she react and will Nick decide to drop the charges?
Sinister plan
In other developments over the festive period, Tracy Barlow grows worried for her father Ken Barlow due to Cassie Plummer continuing as his carer. On Christmas Day, Ken is thrilled to unwrap a gift from Cassie – an album by a favourite composer. In return, Cassie is equally delighted with a scarf from Porto that Ken gives her.
Later in the week, Steve McDonald informs Ken of his plans to find his own place, while Ken notices a distressed Cassie. She breaks down in tears, claiming she’s accumulated a large debt from buying presents for the family.
As the days roll on, Ken shares his passion for ballet with Cassie, apologising for his lack of energy due to exhaustion. The following day, Tracy and Steve are taken aback when they discover Cassie in Steve’s dressing gown, explaining she stayed over to care for Ken while Steve was working the night shift.
Cassie enjoys stirring the pot, hinting at an attraction towards Ken. She later confides in Ken about feeling inferior to his cultured, educated, and kind nature, leaving him feeling sympathetic, oblivious to her manipulative tactics.
Tracy, growing concerned, cautions Steve that Cassie seems to be setting her sights on Ken, pleading with him not to move out.
Later, Tracy confronts Cassie about a premature wage payment from Ken. Worried about her father’s wellbeing, Tracy entrusts Steve and Amy to keep a watchful eye on Cassie while she’s away in Spain, despite their belief that Tracy is overreacting. Will Tracy’s suspicions turn out to be valid?
Hospital dash
As the New Year begins, Roy Cropper grows worried about Carla Connor when she starts hearing things and appears disoriented. He advises her to rest at home but, increasingly anxious, he enters her flat to find her semi-conscious on the living room floor, prompting him to call for an ambulance.
Later, at the hospital, Roy is informed by a doctor that Carla may be battling sepsis. Unaware of the unfolding situation, DS Lisa Swain returns home with flowers and wine, only to find Carla missing.
At the hospital, Carla is taken aback when the doctor reveals that her kidneys have been damaged by the sepsis, potentially necessitating another transplant. Meanwhile, Lisa discovers Carla’s deception about her location and expresses her displeasure at being lied to.
Carla attempts to downplay the situation, insisting she didn’t want to cause a fuss and is recovering. However, a visibly upset Lisa leaves her alone. The question remains: will their relationship recover, and is Carla okay?
Exit ‘sealed’ amid new mystery
In other news over the holiday season, the relationship between Lisa’s daughter Betsy Swain and Mason Radcliffe blossoms. But after discovering text messages from Stu Carpenter offering Mason a job in Germany, Betsy feels betrayed.
As Betsy asks Mason to leave, Lisa comes home and demands an explanation. During their conversation, Lisa shows Mason photos from Becky’s crime scene, revealing his brothers were behind the wheel of the car that hit Becky.
Mason is genuinely taken aback and enlists Dylan to keep watch while he searches Matty and Logan’s flat. Soon, he and Dylan arrive at the station, presenting Lisa with a WWII helmet found at the flat. Could this be the crucial evidence Lisa needs?
New beginnings
In forthcoming scenes, Evelyn Plummer laments that her life is lacking direction and Roy suggests she consider pursuing a law degree.
Later on, Evelyn starts filling out an online university application and shares with Tyrone Dobbs that she’s applied to study law at university.
Before long, Evelyn is thrown into a state of anxiety when she gets a text inviting her for an interview at the university. However, upon arriving at the university, Evelyn is taken aback to find herself face-to-face with Marjorie Tavistock, the woman she previously impersonated at the Chariot Square law lecture. Will she manage to secure a spot on the course?
