Coronation Street fans were left gobsmacked following a ‘extreme’ Platt family shake-up just days before matriarch Gail’s dramatic departure.
Helen Worth, who’s been gracing the Weatherfield cobbles as Gail for 50 glorious years, has called it quits and is all geared up to make her unforgettable exit during the Christmas Day special that will hit screens on December 25.
Monday night’s episode (December 9) was abuzz on the ITV soap with scenes of Gail gearing herself to abandon the street she’s known for half a century progressing her nuptials with beau Jesse Chadwick at breakneck speed.
In a poignant moment, Gail was seen eyeing her neighbours from afar, standing outside her abode at No. 8, which viewers know went up for sale earlier this year.
With clarity striking her heart, she consents to Jesse’s ambitious proposal to use the moolah from both her house sale and his divorce settlement to begin anew in France, uttering: “Life goes on and I think I’m ready now to take that step,” followed by quick instructions for him to snap up a villa, reports the Manchester Evening News.

However that wasn’t all as on Wednesday (December 11), Gail hosted a Platt family summit to reveal her bombshell news to both her mum and offspring.
The double-whammy that their wedding was merely a fortnight away, coupled with the plan to chase the European sun, has surely caused more than a few jaws to drop amongst her nearest and dearest, sparking quite the brouhaha.
David was absolutely livid, ticked off that not only did he have to share his birthday with Christmas and his mother’s sixth trip down the aisle, but also felt like his mum was leaving him in the lurch by planning to ditch Weatherfield.
The drama ramped up a notch when his nephew Harry, Sarah’s little lad, came toddling out of the bedroom gripping a bunch of £20 notes the wad of cash nicked from baddie Harvey Gaskell after Damon Hay’s plot to fund Sarah for Bethany’s botched beauty op.

But wait, there was another jaw-dropper for Corrie enthusiasts, who were absolutely flabbergasted when they clapped eyes on Harry Platt flaunting a fresh, more mature look as a new actor took over the role. Carter-J Murphy has stepped into Harry’s shoes, taking over from twins Freddie and Isaac Rhodes who had been in the show since 2017 after Harry popped into the world in 2016.
One X, formerly known as Twitter, user exclaimed: “Harry’s got a new head! ! #Corrie.” Meanwhile, another added: “Wait… THAT’S HARRY? ? ? ? they’ve aged him up aba five years surely! #corrie.”
A third person shared their surprise at the casting choice: “The Harry Platt recast is a tad extreme. Did they purposefully choose an actor who was the exact opposite of the previous one. #corrie.”

Another fan echoed this sentiment, saying: “I was like, ‘Who’s that little boy tiptoeing around the Platts? ‘ And then it hit me: we got a new Harry! #Corrie.”
