Inside Coronation Street’s Gail Platt’s 6 weddings from first love to serial killer
Coronation Street's Gail Platt is set to leave Weatherfield in the New Year as she gets her happy ending and marries Jesse Chadwick - but her life has been full of drama
Helen Worth, who has portrayed Gail Platt in Coronation Street for an impressive five decades, is set to bid a final goodbye to the cobbles and embark on a tranquil life in France with her new spouse.
Gail, smitten as ever, is expected to find her happily ever after on Christmas Day as she prepares to walk down the aisle once more, this time with former child entertainer Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson). However, family tensions are predicted to run high due to their disapproval of her nuptials.
Hints suggest that Gail’s son, David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), will become fixated on sabotaging her wedding to Jesse. But will the Platt clan allow Gail to tie the knot or will she depart Weatherfield solo?
As avid Corrie viewers will recall, this isn’t Gail’s first trip down the aisle as her upcoming wedding to Jesse marks her sixth. In 1974, a youthful Gail Potter made her debut in Weatherfield and tied the knot with Brian Tilsey (Christopher Quinten) five years later, welcoming their son Nick shortly thereafter.
Gail later gave birth to their daughter Sarah Louise (Tina O’Brien). Regrettably, Gail and Brian’s marital bliss was short-lived as they parted ways just before their 10th wedding anniversary in 1988, reports Lancs Live.
Over the years, the couple frequently clashed over financial issues. When their relationship soured, Gail had an affair with her husband’s cousin Ian Latimer (Michael Loney), leading to their divorce.
In a surprising turn of events, Gail and Brian remarried after the birth of their daughter Sarah. The question of Sarah’s paternity was finally resolved when a blood test confirmed Brian as her biological father, despite some family doubts. Tragically, Brian was fatally stabbed outside a nightclub in 1989 while defending a woman from a gang.
A year later, a grieving Gail wed her second husband Martin Platt (portrayed by Sean Wilson). Their marriage lasted from 1990 to 2000, ending due to Martin’s affair with Rebecca Hopkins (Jill Halfpenny).

Perhaps the most memorable of Gail’s husbands was her third, Richard Hillman (Brian Capron). They tied the knot in 2002, but within a year, Richard confessed to murdering his ex-wife and neighbour Maxine Peacock (Tracy Shaw).
Gail walked down the aisle again in 2010 with kitchen fitter Joe McIntyre (Reece Dinsdale). Unfortunately, he was burdened with debt and tried to stage his own death, resulting in Gail being arrested for murder. She was eventually cleared when it was revealed that Joe was alive, but he later died by suicide.
In 2015, Gail seemed to have found her happily ever after with Michael Rodwell (Les Dennis), but this too ended in disaster. Their marriage only lasted a year before he tragically died of a heart attack, caused by the actions of serial killer Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre).
Will Gail finally find her happy ending with Jesse?
