Coronation Street spoilers: More heartbreak for Steve McDonald as he is hit with upsetting news

Steve McDonald outside Number 1 in Coronation Street

Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) recently experienced double devastation in Coronation Street. Not only did he find out his wife Tracy (Kate Ford) was having an affair, but – almost worse – the person she was having the affair with was his footballing idol Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn).

Steve’s friend Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) discovered the affair when he happened to glance through Steve and Tracy’s bedroom window and thought he saw Tracy in a compromising situation with Steve.

When it turned out that Steve had been miles away on a driving job it wasn’t long before Tim and Sally (Sally Dynevor) worked out what was really going on – and Tim had to break the news to Steve.

So broken was Steve’s heart that he even announced that he was giving up his lifelong support of Tommy’s former team, Weatherfield County, and would be looking for a new team to support. Things were that bad.

There was a glimmer of hope when it looked like Tommy might be headed for a coaching job in Spain, but in upcoming episodes Tracy invites her daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney) for lunch at the bistro – and Amy’s shocked to see that Tommy is also joining them.

Tracy explains that she thinks it will be nice if her new boyfriend and her daughter get to know each other, but of course Amy is less than impressed to be having lunch with the man who is responsible for her dad’s heartbreak. Amy orders the best champagne the bistro can offer, thinking that at least she can hit Tommy O in the wallet.

Of course Amy would never want to upset Steve by letting him know about the lunch, and she tries to cheer her dad up later by suggesting they watch a movie together.

Unfortunately Toyah (Georgia Taylor) puts her foot in it when she lets slip that Amy, Tracy and Tommy were having a good time together in the bistro and Amy and Tommy seemed to be getting on well.

This is the last thing Steve wants to hear.

It’s bad enough that Tracy can’t resist Tommy’s charms, but knowing that his daughter is also a convert to Team Tommy is hard to take.

How will Steve cope?
