Coronation Street confirms punishment for Mason Radcliffe in new scenes

Maria and Gary receive an encouraging police visit.

Coronation Street spoilers - Mason's major punishment revealed

Coronation Street‘s Maria Connor and Gary Windass finally receive some good news about Mason Radcliffe next week.

The couple are relieved to learn that Mason is likely to be locked up as a consequence of his knife crime offence.

Mason threatened Maria’s son Liam with a knife late last year. The incident occurred as part of Mason’s long-running campaign of bullying against Liam.

Liam didn’t mention the knife incident when he told Maria and Gary the truth about his bullying ordeal last month.

Monday’s episode (March 4) saw Liam’s younger stepbrother Jake Windass share the truth with Maria and Gary instead.

In this Wednesday’s visit to Weatherfield (March 6), Liam confirms that Jake’s revelation is true. Maria responds by taking Liam down to the police station to make a formal statement against Mason.

Mason tries his best to frame his former friend Dylan Wilson for the crime, but Dylan finally does the right thing by telling the police everything he knows about the bully’s crimes.

In the aftermath next week, Maria and Gary discuss Liam’s new home-schooling routine – determined to keep him away from Weatherfield High for the foreseeable future.

The pair are interrupted by a visit from the police, who confirm that Mason has been charged with threatening with a bladed article in a public place.

The police officer adds that Mason is likely to receive a custodial sentence – but does this mean that Liam and his family have really seen the last of the villain?

Luca Toolan, who plays Mason, recently reflected on his character’s backstory and why he’s become such a horrible person.

Luca told Digital Spy: “He doesn’t have a father figure present, which explains a lot.

“He’s involved in a lot. He has a lot of masculine influence that doesn’t provide him an outlet to talk about his feelings at all – in fact, quite the opposite. He’s been encouraged to suppress.

“It’s like when you shake up a can of Coke. When that’s shook, and when you have that stuff going on in your family, it builds up that pressure, and I think that pressure is affecting him. His way of alleviating that pressure is taking it out on Liam, taking it out on Dylan.

“And I think that’s just a ticking time bomb. It’s just getting worse and worse. The anger inside him is like an acid; it eats him up. I can’t really see it getting better. I can only see it getting worse because of his upbringing.”
