Coronation Street spoilers: Roy accidentally landed in the frame for Lauren’s murder
Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper (David Neilson) has accidentally implemented himself for the apparent murder of troubled teen Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
Lauren seemingly disappeared into thin air two weeks ago, with friend Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) turning up to her precinct flat to see her and finding the radio still playing, a bacon sandwich on the coffee table and pans in the sink.
The last person to see her alive was Roy – who had called in to deliver her final wages from the café after firing her for allegedly stealing £5 from Bethany Platt’s (Lucy Fallon) purse.
She told Roy that she felt as if she didn’t have a home in Weatherfield and was looking for a fresh start after being coerced into joining her dad’s far right extremist group in 2022.
It would be easy to accept that Lauren had just left for pastures new, but fans of the ITV soap have long suspected that something more sinister has happened.
For weeks she’d been dodging phone calls from an anonymous and obsessive boyfriend, whose identity has so far not been revealed to viewers.
She’d also returned to selling nude photos on the subscription site O-Vidz, Corrie’s fictional version of OnlyFans, to pay for her mounting energy debts.
In tonight’s (6th March) episode, Bobby used the printer at Underworld to create some missing posters for the girl, and told the knicker stitchers that Roy had agreed to allow Suki Waters (Laura Littlewood), a reporter for the Gazette, host an appeal in the café.
As Bobby poured his heart out in Suki’s video, he began to talk about how Roy had sacked her a number of weeks ago and how he thought that might have been a catalyst in her disappearance.
Turning the camera to Roy, he accidentally turned all suspicions on himself by adhering to GDPR regulations and refusing to discuss why he had let Lauren go.
When asked if Lauren would be welcome back at home, Roy nervously said he didn’t think she ever considered Weatherfield as home, which raised suspicions with the journalist.
Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) clocked Roy’s unease and wondered whether her uncle had accidentally dobbed himself in for a crime he didn’t commit.
Upcoming scenes will see the street stalwart make matters worse when he’s spotted cleaning up Lauren’s flat on behalf of Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) who had been subletting it to her.
Will the police think he’s disposing of evidence?
