Coronation Street seals favourite’s fate after unexpected showdown

Lauren looking worried in the dock in court in Corrie

Coronation Street’s Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) suffered a huge setback in her bid for freedom after an unexpected prison showdown on Friday.

It was the character’s first day in court, as she went on trial for the murder of her abuser Joel Deering (Calum Lill) last year.

Proceedings in court got off to a rocky start as the prosecution barrister made their opening statements, painting Lauren out to be a liar.

While her barrister tried to discredit the coroner’s report to prove Lauren only hit Joel over the head once, they later warned her that the case could still go either way.

Back in prison, fellow inmate Brie approached Lauren and started purposely winding her up, revealing she was being released.

Continuing to goad Lauren and call her names, Brie suggested baby Frankie would be better off without her.

Seeing red, Lauren flipped and threatened Brie, telling her she would kill her if she spoke about Frankie again.

Unfortunately for Lauren, a guard witnessed the end of her and Brie’s exchange.

After being ordered out, Brie cast a malicious smile at Lauren, making it clear what she was trying to do.

But will the guard report Lauren’s killer threat and derail her trial?

Actress Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren, previously warned fans to ‘get their tissues ready’ for the outcome of her trial.

When asked what it was like to film the scenes during an Instagram Q&A, the actress revealed that it was ‘intense’.

‘For me, it was quite an experience,’ she wrote. ‘It felt terrifyingly real, which for an actor is great.

‘It was intense but super fun being on location as always. I’m really excited for you guys to watch!’
