Coronation Street’s David arms himself with weapon ahead of horror fire
A panicked David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) takes drastic action to protect himself and his family in Coronation Street next week as his recent misdeeds threaten to catch up with him.
As fans of the ITV soap will remember, last year David stole cash belonging to drug lord Harvey Gaskill (Will Mellor).
Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) offered his ex Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) the secret stash of his gangster brother’s money after hearing about Bethany Platt’s (Lucy Fallon) medical bills – but David stashed it and got Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson) to launder it for him.
It has been widely reported that things will culminate in a house fire ripping through No.8 later this year.
It all kicks off next week, when Harvey starts to put a revenge plan in motion.
At No.8, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) is shaken when stepdaughter Lily hands over a piece of paper a man in the precinct gave her to pass on to David.
Shona later hands David the note, which turns out to be from Harvey demanding an extra £10k in interest.
David’s spooked to realise Harvey’s cronies knew who Lily was, so he and Shona make a pact to keep tabs on the kids at all times.
The following day, Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) calls at No.8 with David the dog wrapped in a blanket after finding him at the side of the road, having seemingly been hit by a car.
A spooked David and Shona secretly wonder if Harvey’s responsible.
David later returns home armed with a hammer and baseball bat and tells a deeply concerned Shona that until they can find the money for Harvey, they must protect themselves..
Corrie boss Kate Brooks recently confirmed that David ‘ends up losing quite a few things that he holds dear’ in the coming weeks as he ‘tries to do the right thing’.
‘It’s a real journey for David,’ she said. ‘He’s well-intentioned, but he fails, messes up and makes mistakes, and there’s massive consequences not only for his own family, but for the wider community as well.’
