One of our most recognisable soap stars has a surprising link to a wellknown TV icon.

Actor Gareth Pierce, 43, who’s been playing Todd Grimshaw on Coronation Street since 2020, has a surprising connection to Gavin and Stacey’s Ruth Jones. The Welsh actor, originally from Gwynedd, has appeared in Alys, Ordinary Lies and Living a Lie, but he also shared the screen with our beloved Ness – Ruth Jones herself.

If you’re scratching your head trying to place him, he starred alongside her in a popular drama over a decade ago. He was the hot-headed Lenny Mack in Stella from 2013 to 2014.

Lenny was Zoe’s abusive boyfriend, who later found love with Stella’s son, Luke Morgan. Fast forward more than 10 years, and it’s hard to believe it’s the same actor now portraying such a different character in Coronation Street.

Gareth is the second actor to play Todd Grimshaw in the iconic soap, and he’s tackled a range of juicy storylines since joining the cast.

In Corrie, Todd was the show’s first gay character, and his coming out storyline was praised for helping the soap reflect life in the 21st century more accurately.

Looking back at old photos of Gareth in Stella, it’s clear he’s undergone quite a transformation. His character, Lenny, sported spiky hair, dressed casually and was very aggressive – a far cry from his current role as Todd.

If you’ve overlooked his role in Ruth Jones’s iconic comedy-drama, Gareth has it highlighted on his Instagram page. His social media profile is full of updates about his work and daily life.

The actor frequently shares snaps with his family, hiking adventures and fun getaways. Some fans might be surprised to learn that the beloved Corrie star is actually Welsh.

If you think you’ve seen him elsewhere, Gareth also had a stint in The Archers back in 2020. The Archers, a British radio soap opera aired on BBC Radio 4, is set in the fictional village of Ambridge in the equally fictitious county of Borsetshire, England, which would be nestled between Worcestershire and Warwickshire in reality.

You might remember Gareth from his Stella days but, if not, now you’re aware of the soap star’s unexpected connection to Ruth Jones. It’s a fun piece of TV trivia that might have slipped your mind.
