Coronation Street legends Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) fell back into each other’s arms in tonight’s episode, after several bottles of wine.

Leanne has been down in the dumps ever since she found out that sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) was dating ex-fiancé Nick Tilsley (Ben Price).

To make matters worse, she has been forced to do community service on her own doorstep, leaving her humiliated in front of her neighbours.

After offering her a listening ear, Steve invited her to spend the evening with him, and soon it was just like old times.

As Leanne lamented about her failed relationship with Nick, Steve warned her not to get him started after all the heartbreak he’s had.

Leanne was quick to thank him for being such a good mate over the years, as they both reflected on the loss they’ve suffered.

Viewers will know that Leanne and Steve spent a night together in 2016, which resulted in Leanne falling pregnant.

Though they agreed to keep quiet about him being the father in order to protect his marriage to Michelle Connor, Steve revealed the truth in devastating scenes after losing son Ruairi, who he shared with Michelle.

In 2020, Steve and Leanne received the heartbreaking news that Oliver was suffering from a rare, life-limiting form of mitochondrial disease.

His condition drastically deteriorated over the course of a few months, and after courts ruled in favour of doctors turning off Oliver’s life support, Leanne and Steve sang to him as he passed away.

Leanne admitted to Steve that she didn’t think she’d have got through that dark time without his support, before they turned to laughing about what they’d learnt from their previous failed relationships.

When Steve admitted that he was in awe of Leanne’s strength after everything they’d been through, she kissed him, and soon the couple headed up to bed.

Once they’d had enough, Steve insisted that they go for a drink, so that they could skip the awkward regret phase and jump straight to the ‘laughing about it’ phase.

However, having left his phone at home in favour of spending time with Leanne, Steve missed a distress call from daughter Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney).

Is Amy in trouble, and will she blame Leanne for distracting Steve?
