Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott considered exit from soap
Ryan has recently returned to the cobbles.
Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott has admitted he considered leaving the ITV soap.
Prescott has played Ryan Connor on the soap since 2018, with the character making a return to the cobbles earlier this month after a short absence.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Prescott admitted he didn’t see himself on the cobbles for longer than five years but he had a change of heart following Covid.
“It’s been six years now, so I always said to myself I probably wouldn’t do more than five, but then we had Covid and everything changed,” Prescott explained.
“It’s one of those realities of life, and as I got older, you kind of realise how good you’ve got it. Somewhere where people care about you, people that we work with that make every day different.”
“I think that’s the most important thing for me, really,” he added. “I’d love to go on and do different things, and I do plan to, I’m just not sure.”
Speaking about what he’d like to see in his character’s future, Prescott said: “If I could choose anything, I’d like Ryan to have a little bit more of a traditional footing, maybe a little bit of grounding. Maybe a real relationship, that would be nice.”
Ryan left the cobbles in December after his affair with Daisy Midgeley was exposed, choosing to take a DJ job in Glasgow with his girlfriend Crystal Hyde.
He made his return to Weatherfield earlier this month, immediately finding himself drawn back to Daisy, who is no longer with Daniel Osbourne.
Speaking previously about Ryan and Daisy, Prescott said the pair were “always going to have a bond” following the acid attack last year.
“I think when you have been through something to the degree of trauma that they have together, there’s an invisible, everlasting bond,” he said.
“It’s a basis for the foundations of a relationship, whatever relationship flourishes from it. He left right in the middle of it all, so lots of room for something to happen there.”
