Coronation Street legend teases return with genius story twist despite being dead
Coronation Street legend Nigel Havers has a brilliant plan to allow him to return to the cobbles, despite his character Lewis Archer being dead.
Lewis was a notorious conman who first appeared on our screens back in 2009. During his time on the street, he scammed both Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) out of significant sums of money.
His actions left viewers horrified, with Nigel revealing that people still shout at him for the character’s actions.
‘I was shopping in places and they’d say, “You owe her £20,000! Pay her back!”‘ Nigel told the Loose Women panel.
Panellist Ruth Langsford then suggested that Lewis may have a twin brother somewhere, which Nigel was quick to agree with.
‘That’s what Audrey always said…’ He quipped.
Corrie fans will know that Lewis previously pretended to be his twin brother, Hugh, before being caught out by Audrey and Gail Platt (Helen Worth).
On New Year’s Day 2019, Lewis died of a heart attack in dramatic scenes.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain back in 2019, Nigel made the suggestion that he could come back to the soap in the role of Lewis’ twin brother, and we’d be totally here for it.
‘Indeed, he has obviously, a twin brother living in Australia,’ Nigel stated.
Presenter Piers Morgan then went on to suggest that Lewis could have faked his own death, and given that he was always a conman, we wouldn’t put it past him.
Could Lewis have faked his death as part of an insurance scam, a la Kathy Beale in EastEnders?
Or can we expect to see Hugh Archer make his way to Weatherfield with a familiar face?
