CORONATION Street’s Roy Cropper has been put through a horrendous ordeal after being arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton.

The kindly cafe owner – who is played by actor David Neilson in the ITV soap – has got himself into a sticky position after trying to help troubled Lauren.

In tonight’s episode he was made aware of the trolling from his appearance at Lauren’s vigil, with trolls online labelling him a killer.

But as they disagreed over Lauren’s appeal, DS Swain arrived and made a shocking move.

She said: “Roy Cropper, I’m arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Lauren Bolton.

“You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court.

“Anything you do say may be given in evidence.”

He was taken out of the cafe in front of Suki the reporter from the Weatherfield Gazette and outside it got even worse as bystanders began filming his arrest.

The video was quickly placed online with trolls descending, condemning Roy for a murder that he had nothing to do with.

At the police station things got even worse for Roy as Swain interrogated him about his relationship with Lauren.

And he’d made a huge mistake when cleaning the flat.

Viewers watched as Roy deep-cleaned Lauren’s flat so Evelyn could get her deposit back, but when he was interrupted by Bobby, he removed his gloves.

When he did that he ended up picking up a condom wrapper and putting it in the bin – and the police found his prints on it.

It was enough for the police to continue questioning Roy and despite DeeDee Bailey’s best efforts, he remained under suspicion.

They released him under police bail but the damage had already been done to his reputation.

And back at the cafe while Roy tried to remain upbeat, certain the investigation would clear him, DeeDee told Carla that it wasn’t going to be that easy.

The lawyer told her: “I’ve seen people go down for less.”
