ITV Coronation Street exit ‘sealed’ for Roy Cropper as he’s arrested for Lauren’s murder
Coronation Street's Roy Cropper could be leaving the ITV soap, fans fear, after his future looked uncertain following his arrest on suspicion of murdering Lauren Bolton
Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper could leave the ITV soap after being accused of murdering a teenager.
The fan favourite, played by actor David Neilson, could bow out in upsetting scenes almost 30 years on from his debut. The character was heartbroken in the latest episode on Friday night as he was arrested over Lauren Bolton’s disappearance.
As he faced interrogation from DS Swain he faced all kinds of accusations, and was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with missing teen Lauren. Not only that, but a grim discovery led to his arrest and him being accused of killing her.
Following traces of blood and human tissue being found on the curtains of her flat this week, detectives revealed in the latest episode that evidence suggested she was dead. Swain suggested she had likely been hit over the head as the blood splatter and tissue found in her flat was consistent with blunt head trauma.
She also revealed that a leg from a broken chair had been found, and this was covered in blood too. Officers now believe someone attacked and killed Lauren with the chair leg, likely hitting her over the head.
Of course Roy had cleaned the flat for pal Evelyn Plummer recently after Lauren had left it in a state before she vanished, seemingly leaving the street. He did not know at the time of the deep clean that Lauren had likely been attacked and possibly killed there, as new evidence suggests.
It’s only when blood was found on her curtains, and then the chair leg, that police decided she had been killed by someone. While no body has been found, they are convinced they have now solved her fate.
This is bad news for Roy, who was asked about Lauren making a pass at him as well as a number of calls made to one another. This on top of the fact he deep cleaned the flat after she vanished has set him up as a killer trying to cover his tracks.
Roy was devastated as he was accused of forcing himself on Lauren, before Swain asked if he lost his temper with the teen resulting in her death. Eventually Roy was released due to no body or real evidence being found, while he remains on police bail.
He seemed determined that his name would be cleared and he would be able to get on with his life. But his solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey wasn’t so sure, confiding in Carla Connor that things did not look good, and she’d seen people go to prison for less than what Roy was accused of.
So could this be a sad end to Roy’s time on the Cobbles, and will he be charged with Lauren’s murder? The soap has yet to confirm Lauren’s fate and whether a twist is on the way, but it’s certainly not looking good for legend Roy.
