Coronation Street's Glenda left horrified by dramatic Rovers Return robbery

Coronation Street‘s Glenda Shuttleworth finds herself in danger next week as two masked robbers target the Rovers Return.

The incident takes place while Glenda is alone at the pub after overseeing a singles event for the locals.

Glenda steps in to host a speed dating night because Jenny Connor has booked a posh dinner with Rita Tanner, and Daisy Midgeley has arranged a date with Ryan Connor.

Once the evening is over and Glenda is preparing to lock up, she enters the bar to find masked burglars raiding the till.

Glenda is powerless to stop the thieves as they shout at her to get down on the floor. Terrified for her safety, Glenda follows the instructions and watches on as they snatch the night’s takings.

Once the intruders have gone, Glenda calls the police and fills in Jenny once she has returned home.

Glenda tries her best to put on a brave face, but Jenny sees how much she’s struggling and advises her to take the morning off.

As Glenda reflects on the frightening events, it’s clear that the situation has taken its toll. Will she be able to cope?

Jodie Prenger, who plays Glenda, told Digital Spy: “Glenda is utterly horrified by the robbery. It’s the worst feeling for anyone to see somebody invading your home, your private space and something that you are there really to protect and look after.

“The two fellas that played the robbers, they were brilliant but brilliant for all the wrong reasons! They were scary and it was so atmospheric. Jason Wingard, the director, was brilliant and the way it was all shot was very dramatic.

“I’m not kidding you, I genuinely was scared! There was glass everywhere, there were bats involved, it was so well put together and formulated, very well done.”

Asked how this will affect Glenda, Jodie replied: “Glenda is saving face and she doesn’t want to admit to that experience getting to her, which we all don’t. It’s something that I hope raises truths with a lot of people that have gone through experiences like that and go, ‘Ah, we’ll be fine, I’m fine, oh no, I’m completely fine’.

“Then Glenda suffers a lot with her breathing and with anxiety. It is something that is very easy to push to the side, but it really does affect her. With Jenny and Daisy, she feels like she’s completely let the team down. I think it’s a lot of front and face for that as well.

“Even when there’s something when she does talk to her brother George, she goes, ‘Oh no I’m fine’. I think deep down she wants to say, ‘Oh please stay with me, I don’t want to be on my own’.

“That’s the very hard thing, but I think a lot of people do and have experienced the same thing with whatever situation they’ve been in – whether it’s been an intruder, or another experience in life. So, it’ll be nice and a very good story to play.”

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, March 29.
