Corrie’s Joel ‘exposed’ as work out secret DNA twist to well-known baddie

Coronation Street fans are growing worried for Ed Bailey as lawyer Joel grows closer to his daughter DeeDee, and they reckon he might be linked to a past villain

Coronation Street fans are fretting for the wellbeing of Ed Bailey after his gambling addiction was exposed – and as his daughter DeeDee grows closer to her new boyfriend Joel.

Last week, fans watched as Joel offered to throw some work Ed’s way after his gambling debts came out, with him admitting to his family that he pawned off their Christmas presents to feed his addiction. And now some eagle eyed viewers think they’ve uncovered Joel’s secret link to a past villain.

Turning to Reddit to air their views, one fan suggested Joel could be related to Damon Hay, who has been involved in plenty of dodgy deals on the cobbles before fleeing after his affair with Sarah Platt.

One user wrote: “What do we think the deal is with him? I think he’s dodgy. Not quite sure how the story is going to play out, but I think he’s a wrong ‘un.” As another echoed: “He mentioned getting Ed work the other day. I bet it’s dodgy.”

Another social media user followed up: “From what I can gleam from the summary for next week’s episodes, it looks like it’s work with Damon.” To which someone else replied: “So I wonder if that means he’ll be involved in the upcoming Damon and Adam thing.”“That’s why he looked so shocked and panicky when Dee Dee told him about Ronnie’s dodgy deal!” another exclaimed. Over on X – formerly Twitter – one user suggested the pair could even be connected by DNA: “With this whole Ed/Ronnie thing I reckon Joel (DeeDee’s fella) is gonna be related to Damon or even Geoff or someone and they get out of debt in a dodgy deal #Corrie.”

In Sunday’s episode (December 31), fans watched as Ronnie promised to cut all ties from his brother Ed after he funnelled money from the business account to fuel his gambling. Elsewhere it was a happier time as the Rovers Return opened just in time for New Year’s Eve, after Jenny and Daisy bought it using Stephen’s money.

Daniel shared a tense exchange with his ex as he congratulated her on opening the pub just in time – but it ended in a cruel reminder she’d slept with Ryan and ruined their engagement.

To make things even more shocking, Daniel was left speechless as his ex Bethany Platt climbed out of a taxi and reappeared on the cobbles for the first time since January 2020. She appeared in Daniel’s flat dressed in nothing but a sheet as Daisy knocked on the door – leaving both women speechless.

Actress Lucy Fallon admitted that quitting the soap was “potentially the worst possible decision I could have ever made”.

Speaking about the Covid-19 lockdowns, she said: “I feel like in a way it did me some favours, in that I could get away from that character and not have the pressure that I needed to be doing something, because nobody was doing anything.

“The worst question you can get asked when you aren’t working is, ‘What are you doing now? What are you doing next? What TV show are you going to be on now?’, as if it just works like that.

“So even though lockdown was horrendous, I sort of enjoyed that time just not having to worry about the fact that people weren’t going to ask me that question.”
