Coronation Street’s Todd gets answers as Theo makes devastating conversion therapy confession
Coronation Street’s Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) thought he’d finally found the one when he met Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) earlier this year, but things have been far from plain sailing for the pair.
The complications began when Todd discovered that Theo was married, and it only got worse when he was introduced to Theo’s two children.
Torn between his family and his true feelings, Theo continued to see Todd behind wife Danielle Silverton’s (Natalie Anderson) back, until one day she walked in on them kissing.
Theo was mortified, and soon convinced her to take him back, forfeiting his relationship with Todd in the process.
Drunk Theo later told Todd that it was best they never saw each other again, before climbing into a car beside Danielle, leaving Todd heartbroken and bewildered.
However, it became clear in tonight’s episode that Theo has been struggling to carry on as normal after revealing his true self to his family.
After saving Theo from a drunken confrontation with Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton), vicar Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) took him to the cafe to sober up.
They were soon joined by Todd, who revealed that Danielle had called him asking about Theo, claiming she hadn’t seen or heard from him in several days.
It was then that Theo admitted that he believed his family would be better off without him because of ‘what he was’.
Though Todd and Billy tried to make him see that being gay was totally normal and okay, Theo revealed exactly why he has struggled so much to come to terms with his sexuality.
He told Todd and Billy that he came from a very religious background and that his church had put him through conversion therapy growing up.
Both men were horrified to hear what Theo had been subjected to, and insisted that it wasn’t okay.
With Theo not wanting to return to his family, Todd offered to put him up on his sofa for the night.
Will Todd be able to help Theo come to terms with his sexuality after his cruel treatment in the past?
