Coronation Street star ‘quits’ after two years as time on ITV soap ‘came to natural end’
Ciaran Griffiths has reportedly filmed his final scenes as Coronation Street's Damon Hay after the actor's time working on the ITV soap "came to an natural end"
Another Coronation Street actor is reportedly leaving the cobbles.
Ciaran Griffiths, who is best known for playing bad boy Damon Hay, is said to be saying goodbye to Weatherfield after his time on the show came to an “natural end”.
The ITV soap star played the role for two years and has already filmed his final scenes, according to reports.
A source told The Sun: “Ciaran’s loved his time on the show but Damon’s story came to a natural end for now. The door has been left open but for now it’s time to say goodbye to him.” In recent scenes, Damon was arrested for armed robbery after being blackmailed into it by brother Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor).
He had the option to turn on Harvey and be freed to live his life with girlfriend Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien) but he knew they would never be safe. So he decided to plead guilty and accept years in prison with Harvey instead. The brothers had a brutal fight and then reunited with plans to relaunch their criminal empire from behind bars. During Friday’s (March 29) episode, Damon called Sarah to prison to break up with her.
As Sarah told him how she planned to wait for him and that they could have a future together, Damon dropped bombshell on his lover. He said: “I don’t want you to do that because I asked you here to tell you to your face, we’re finished. I’m doing you a massive favour. You turned my world upside down but if I loved you, properly loved you, I wouldn’t have done the stuff I’ve done. “You’ve got to walk away. I’m sorry, it’s my decision. Goodbye Sarah.” With that he got up and walked away from her leaving her devastated.
Ciaran joined Corrie in 2022 but it’s not he first time he appeared on the ITV soap. He made his debut back in 2000 in a guest appearance. He has also appeared in Waterloo Road, Clocking Off and famously played Gary Best in The Bill and Mickey Maguire in Shameless. Daily Star has contacted ITV for a comment.
Ciaran’s departure comes after the news that Alex Bain will be leaving the show as Simon Barlow and weeks after Chris Gasoyone’s final scenes as Peter Barlow aired over the festive period.
