Coronation Street star responds to controversial decision to suddenly kill her off
Former Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote’s character Katy Armstrong was killed off-screen in 2017.
The storyline was devised as a means to reintroduce her son Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) to the ITV soap after living in Portugal for several years.
The 2015 Strictly Come Dancing finalist, 32, first appeared on the cobbles in 2010, the show’s 50th anniversary year.
Katy soon began a relationship with Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and shortly afterwards she gave birth to their son on stage at Bessie Street primary school.
She’d stepped into the role of Mary in their production of the nativity after Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) developed stage fright.
After engaging in a steamy affair with Ryan Connor (then Sol Heras), Chesney accused her of neglecting Joseph and she decided to take mum Linda Hancock (Jacqueline Leonard) up on her offer of emigrating.
Two years later, news reached Weatherfield that she had died in a car accident near to her family’s Portuguese villa.
In a Instagram Q&A earlier this year, a fan asked if she was ‘disappointed’ that her character was killed off.
‘I wouldn’t say disappointed at all,’ she replied.
‘I’m one of those people when I leave a job I’m ready for the next adventure.
‘Corrie was an amazing nearly 5 years for me, I learnt so much and will forever be grateful for the show.’
She continued: ‘Would I have gone back if I could? I can’t answer that because I will never know. But the time I had there was a special time in my life and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have played not only one, but two roles in the show.
‘It’s iconic.’
The post came after Georgia revealed she enjoyed working as a nail technician during her breaks from acting.
Since leaving soapland she has operated her own business, GMF Nails, after becoming qualified in the profession more than two years ago.
Explaining she was ‘taking on new clients’ via her Instagram page, the star offered her 525,000 followers a glimpse inside her double life.
Alongside a snap of the actress dressed in a nail tech uniform, she penned a lengthy caption outlining her experience and alerted followers to the fact that she was open to booking them in for appointments.
