The end of Roy Cropper in Coronation Street as he is charged with murder after another attack
Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) life falls apart completely in Coronation Street next week as he is charged with Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder.
Roy was arrested shortly after Lauren went missing. For investigating officer DS Swain (Vicky Myers), she thought Roy’s comments about helping Lauren were a little too good to be true, and that he was probably hiding something.
In the aftermath, Roy has faced a torrid of abuse from members of the public who believe he played a part in Lauren’s disappearance.
Despite the horrific few weeks, Roy remains determined to focus on what is at the heart of this storyline – a troubled young girl has gone missing, of course he wants to try and help.
Coming up, Nina (Mollie Gallagher) makes it clear to Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) and Shona (Julia Goulding) that despite the abusive calls, they still must answer the phone as Roy is hoping for a call from Lauren’s mum Kerry.
Meanwhile, Stu (Bill Fellows) takes it upon himself to help Roy. After all, he knows exactly what it’s like to be wrongly accused of murder.
In the precinct, Stu talks to a homeless guy, believing he can get information about Lauren. However, he fails to notice the man picking up a brick and later, Stu returns to Speed Daal covered in blood.
Back in the cafe, Roy reels in shock as Evelyn discovers that Hayley’s son, Christian, has posted some hurtful things about him and Hayley online.
Later, Lauren’s mum Kerry calls at the cafe and introduces herself to Roy and Nina.
Towards the end of the week, it soon becomes apparent the lady in the cafe isn’t actually Lauren’s mother at all – her real name is Alice.
After Alice films Roy’s living room and records commentary that says he’s a murderer, she overhears young Sam (Jude Riordan) telling Roy that he’s his best friend forever.
As the penny drops that the lady isn’t Lauren’s mum, Roy and Evelyn head out with Freddie the dog and come face to face with Alice.
Just as she starts to film them, Roy goes to stop her, but Alice ends up stumbling and bangs her head.
This looks set to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back as that evening, Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) breaks the news to Nina, Shona, Evelyn and Carla (Alison King) that Roy has been charged with Lauren’s murder.
In the police cell, an utterly broken Roy sits all alone, his mind completely numb with fear.
What now for the beloved character?
