Coronation Street spot major clue Joel Deering is involved in Lauren Bolton’s ‘murder’

Joel speaks to Emily in the Bistro in Corrie

The disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) has got all the Coronation Street fans talking.

The troubled young woman seemingly vanished into thin air a few weeks ago, after telling Roy (David Neilson) she was going to leave Weatherfield to start a new life elsewhere.

After Lauren’s concerned friends told the police, DS Swain (Vicky Myers) and Craig (Colson Smith) then found blood in Lauren’s flat, and an investigation was launched.

As it stands, we currently don’t know where Lauren is, let alone whether she’s actually alive. Right now, Roy Cropper remains the prime suspect due to his involvement in Lauren’s life, but most Weatherfield residents – and us! – believe the beloved café owner had nothing to do with the character going missing.

With theories circulating all of the time, one person who fans still remain suspicious of is Joel Deering (Calum Lill), Dee-Dee’s (Channique Sterling-Brown) love interest.

Interestingly, lovestruck Dee-Dee first met duty solicitor Joel at the police station in September, when he helped Lauren get off with a caution for smashing up Audrey’s salon.

While focus has been on Joel and his secret partner in recent weeks, some audience members for the ITV soap believe he is involved in Lauren’s storyline.

Posting thoughts on a Coronation Street Facebook group, one fan grew curious and wondered: ‘I always thought Joel was Nathan’s brother maybe that was involved in the grooming case with Bethany. A necklace is what Bethany got too.’

Referencing the bunch of flowers Lauren received in February, another raised an intriguing point and said: ‘Didn’t Dee-Dee and Lauren get the same valentines flowers too?’

In the episode broadcasted on February 16, Dee-Dee was gifted some flowers from Joel and while they weren’t the exact same as Lauren’s, they were certainly very similar.

Aside from these plausible theories, another member of the Facebook group said ‘it’s more likely to be the far-right group she [Lauren] was involved with though’, referencing the gang that also manipulated and groomed Max Turner (Paddy Bever).

In upcoming episodes of the ITV soap, focus will continue to be on Roy, who gets involved in another terrifying situation when a lady called Alice arrives at the café and pretends to be Lauren’s mum.

After Alice films Roy’s living room and records commentary that says he’s a murderer, she overhears young Sam (Jude Riordan) telling Roy that he’s his best friend forever.

As the penny drops that the lady isn’t Lauren’s mum, Roy and Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) head out with Freddie the dog and come face to face with Alice.

Just as she starts to film them, Roy goes to stop her, but Alice ends up stumbling and bangs her head.

This looks set to be the straw that breaks the camel’s back as that evening, Dee-Dee breaks the news to Nina (Mollie Gallagher), Shona (Julia Goulding), Evelyn and Carla (Alison King) that Roy has been charged with Lauren’s murder.

In the police cell, an utterly broken Roy sits all alone, his mind completely numb with fear.
