Is Gary Windass leaving Coronation Street? Mikey North on exit for soap icon amid death fears
Gary Windass is in a coma on Coronation Street, with fans devastated about what the future might hold for the fan favourite character played by Mikey North
Gary Windass (Mikey North) finds himself in a coma on Coronation Street, leaving fans fearful he will be making shocking exit. The fan favourite had disappeared for weeks – only to end up nearly dead and in hospital.
There has been real fears that Gary might be leaving the Cobbles in a body bag – the same way Craig did – amid cuts at the soap. Mikey North – who plays Gary – left fans even more worried by his comment recently.
Speaking to hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on This Morning, he said: “Gary’s walked out and has gone missing. We find him in hospital in a coma.” When soap expert Sharon Marshall joked that Maria was the ‘black widow’ of the Cobbles as those paired with her usually die. Mikey then said: “I think I’ve been with her five or six years counting, so I’ve probably got about six months left.”
Asked if he was going anywhere, he then added: “I hope not … If I am, it’s been a pleasure being on this show.”
Mikey had also previously hinted that there was trouble ahead for Gary. He warned: “Trouble lies ahead, definitely. We’ve not seen the end of Lou by a long shot, and I think Gary’s probably going to regret what he does next…”
Speaking of Gary’s connection to new arrivals Mick and Lou, he added: “They’ve been great. Their arrival reminded me of the Windass arrival all those years ago – coming in and ruffling a few feathers! I’ve been lucky down the years; I tend to get involved with a lot of new people who come into the show for short periods of the time. They’re always playing characters that, like I say, are there to ruffle feathers – the Pat Phelans and the Rick Neelans, people like that. So, yeah, it’s always nice.”
Sources also claimed that Mikey had signed a new contract with the soap. “Mikey loves working at Coronation Street and bosses love having him so it was a no brainer for him to sign for another year recently,” the source said.
“Gary’s got a huge year coming up and it’s all just kicked off on-screen and it’s just the beginning. There’s going to be a lot of Mikey on screens in the coming months.”
Those who have seen tonight’s episode of Coronation Street, already available on ITVX and YouTube, will know Gary’s fate – and the identity of his attacker. But what does the future hold after this huge twist?
