Coronation Street actress Farrel Hegarty has posted her first message since her departure from the beloved soap was broadcast.

Her final appearance as Lou Michaelis aired during Wednesday’s (July 23) episode of the ITV drama, much to the dismay of fans.

As viewers will recall, Lou made her Weatherfield debut in February, quickly forming a bond with Gemma Winter-Brown as their children attend the same school.

Her husband Mick soon followed, and the couple were swiftly dubbed the street’s new ‘nightmare neighbours’ when they moved into Mawdsley Street, just behind Gemma and her husband Chesney’s home.

Lou and Mick, portrayed by Joe Layton, became fast friends with Gemma and Chesney. However, it wasn’t long before the couple discovered that Mick was the man who had been tormenting Chesney for months.

Mick’s behaviour escalated, culminating in him tragically killing PC Craig Tinker on duty, in heart-wrenching scenes aired in May.

Following this, Lou’s own shocking actions were revealed when she assaulted Gary Windass with a metal pole after he refused to participate in her desperate scheme to extort money from him.

Upon learning that Gary had been battling for his life in hospital, it was revealed that Lou had been keeping a watchful eye on him, masquerading as his wife. However, her intentions were far from noble – she was the one who landed him in hospital to begin with.

Her secret eventually came to light, leading to her arrest. It now appears she’s set for a lengthy stint behind bars, with her husband also facing an extended sentence following his recent prison escape.

In Wednesday’s (July 23) episode of the ITV soap, Lou decided to plead guilty to her crime after Sally Metcalfe was unable to secure funds for a top-notch lawyer.

Sally later escorted Brody and his younger sisters Joanie and Shanice to visit their mother in prison. During the visit, Lou suggested it would be better if the children refrained from visiting her, not wanting her incarceration to tarnish their memories of her.

The encounter between the two women was charged with emotion, as Sally pledged to look after Lou’s children alongside her husband Tim. Lou expressed gratitude towards Sally for her friendship, despite admitting she ‘didn’t deserve it’.

Lou then beckoned the children over for a tearful farewell, giving them some privacy. These scenes marked the end of Lou’s chapter in Weatherfield, and actress Farrel’s tenure in Corrie.

Taking to Instagram, Farrel reposted a fan’s tribute to her brief yet eventful stint in Weatherfield, announcing: “Lou’s last ep tonight [waving emoji].”

In response to fans clamouring for her return to the long-standing series, she expressed her gratitude: “Thank you so much for all the support, edits, messages etc along the way. Appreciate it so much.”

This follows Farrel’s recent comments about her ‘sad’ departure and filming her final scenes. She shared with Inside Soap: “It was really sad. On your last day on set, they give you a little round of applause.

“Julia [Goulding, who plays Shona Platt] is one of my best mates and she popped round the corner. You know when you see your mate and it just makes you upset? I saw her little face and I burst into tears!”.

When asked by the magazine about her dream storyline for Lou if she were to return, Farrel revealed: “I would love to see what she’s capable of without Mick.

“They were so dependent on each other, and it was so toxic. There’s a lot of joy and fun in her and also mischief. Obviously, it wouldn’t be strait-laced, would it? She’d go on a rampage!”.
