Coronation Street fans reckon a former soap legend is heading back as Asha Alahan continues to spiral.

Asha (now played by Tanisha Gorey) has been a staple on the soap since her on-screen birth in 2009. And as the daughter of Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Sunita (Shobna Gulati), Asha has become a firm favourite with fans.

She’s also been involved in several big storylines too. From body image struggles to training to become a parademic, her time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.

Especially at the moment, as this week, not only did her brother Aadi (Adam Hussain) leave the street, but a special episode showed the traumatic and heartbreaking events Asha had to endure while on shift.

Asha’s had a dramatic time recently

As well as being involved in a death and looking after an injured elderly resident, Asha was also the victim of a vile racist attack. The shift had a huge impact on Asha who started suffering panic attacks, while turning to drink.

And in Tuesday’s episode (August 26) Asha continued to spiral, with things going from bad to worse for Asha when Aadi eventually said his goodbyes for a new life in India.

Still struggling, she got drunk again and confided in copper Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) about the ordeal, in which she told her to report it straight away to her boss.

Now, with Asha still struggling fans reckon the soap could bring back a former legend to ‘save her’. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person wrote: “I feel so sorry for Ash but what an actress! I wonder where this storyline is going?”

Someone else then predicted the return of her late mum Sunita. They mused: “I think her mental health is going to get worse and she’ll hallucinate Sunita.”

A third chimed in: “Oh yes! Like Angie in EastEnders,” referring to Angie Watts’ (Anita Dobson) return in the soap’s 40th anniversary. Agreeing with the Sunita theory, another person said: “That would be amazing, Asha needs her mum.” A fifth also said: “Bring her back!”

Viewers will recall that Sunita made her first appearance way back in 2001. As the wife of show alum Dev and mum of twins Aadi and Asha, Sunita became a hit with viewers. But in 2013, and after 12 years on the cobbles, Sunita was killed off from the soap in a horrific fire at the Rovers Return pub.
