Coronation Street star Bobby has seemingly dropped a new name in the Lauren Bolton murder case.

Lauren was ‘killed’ by a mystery assailant, and Roy Cropper has now been charged for the murder of Lauren. However, in a shocking turn of events, Bobby decided it was best to lie and come up with a new suspect to get the heat off of Roy.

In tonight’s episode, Bobby was asked to attend the police station and quizzed more about what he ‘saw’ that night. Speaking back in the factory, he said: “She was relentless, she even mentioned you. I think she was just trying to get in my head. She wouldn’t back off unless I gave her something. I told her that I saw a block in a balaclava and a dark coat with a fur-trimmed hood.”

“That’s all? You’ve just sent the whole police investigation down a blind alley,” Carla explained, whilst Bobby added: “They won’t find Roy down that alley though will they? I panicked! Swain wasn’t buying that I couldn’t remember anything.”

Roy was accused of Lauren's murder

Carla then chimed in to add: “It’s not about whether she buys it or not. I thought you were going to stick to the story,” with Bobby sharing: “I did kind of – it’s not like I told her someone in a puffer with Adrian Chiles’ face on it.”

When Carla questioned why he chose Adrian Chiles, he then said: “First name that popped in my head. There must be so many fir trimmed coats with hoods, I basically said nothing,” before it was later revealed he put Daniel in the frame.

Bobby was initially the one most suspicious of Roy, who is now at risk at being sent down for his alleged crime.

Speaking about Bobby’s suspicion, David Neilson – who plays Roy – said: “He knows that Bobby has a sort of crush on Lauren, I think he understands why Bobby has acted in that way. I don’t think he puts any blame on anyone.

“It’s just that he keeps making crucial errors which I enjoy because I mean, there’s got to be a sort of comic side to something so dark. But when you see somebody doing something they shouldn’t the audience is going to be shouting no at the screen! He is complex, he does these things without giving any thought to it causing him a problem. It is fun to play.”
