Roy and his nearest and dearest have protested his innocence but to no avail, and in upcoming scenes, internet sleuths that have been skulking around trying to get ‘evidence’ to back up their claims Roy killed Lauren take things up a notch.

The episode sees Sam call at the café to collect Freddie, having promised Nina he’d walk him before school.

As Sam heads out, unbeknown to him, a sleuth watches from a table in the corner.

Later, a distraught Sam returns without Freddie and explains that he ran off, and Evelyn offers to mind the cafe whilst Nina and Toyah head out to look for him.

In the cafe, Nina, Asha and Evelyn watch a video uploaded by the sleuths showing that they’ve taken Freddie hostage and to secure his safe return, Roy must confess to Lauren’s murder.

What will they do next?

The news comes after Monday’s episode saw Roy left crushed when it was confirmed that he would remain behind bars until the date of his trial.

In the episode, Dee-Dee Bailey tried her best to do all she could to get Roy off the charges but it did not pay off as he was still sent down by the judge.

The CPS barrister created an image of Roy as a violent man with form for abduction as he detailed his past crimes.

Having been marched into the cells, Roy was allowed one phone call home after the ordeal of his day.

He appeared to make a call to the cafe landline but with everyone at the pub, believing Roy would call their mobiles, no one picked up the phone to the lonely pensioner.

Coronation Street fans were left sickened at the scenes and launched a campaign to save Roy from behind bars.

Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one disgruntled viewer wrote: “Seriously #Corrie Come off it Roy wouldn’t hurt a #Fly.”

Another went on to add: “Seriously #Corrie are we doing a Deirdre on Roy Cropper!? Enough of this I say in an authoritarian tone. Enough! #CoronationStreet #FreeRoy.”

A third fumed: “Anyone else switching off #Corrie whilst this Roy travesty is airing?”
