Steve’s heart shattered yet again in Coronation Street ‘catfishing’ betrayal?
Coronation Street’s Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) has found himself consistently unlucky in love ever since wife Tracy (Kate Ford) abandoned him, and that doesn’t look set to improve in upcoming scenes.
Earlier this month, Tracy left him for pastures new in Spain with his footballing hero Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn), who she’d been engaging in a steamy affair with for months.
Heartbroken Steve was devastated to see his wife jet off just days after she’d accepted his proposal to renew their vows.
After finding a letter inviting her to Spain, he secretly burnt it and she was less than impressed to discover he’d concealed it from her.
In a bid to get back on the dating scene, he attended Glenda Shuttleworth’s (Jodie Prenger) speed dating night at the Rovers Return, and after exchanging a few flirty remarks with neighbour Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), he went home disappointed.
Following the romantic disaster, he set up a profile on an online dating app and had his profile ripped to shreds by David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney).
Debbie suggested he attend her cocktail evening at the Chariot Square Hotel, and he was dismayed when father-in-law Ken Barlow (William Roache) decided to be his wing man.
Their drinks resulted in further dismay as the pensioner managed to pull a woman named Elpseth (Helen Lederer) and Steve once again proved unsuccessful at wooing a lady.
In next week’s episodes, his best mate Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) encourages him to arrange a date with new love interest Demi, so that he can check out she is who she says she is.
Could she be a catfish?
Noticing Steve is reluctant to ask her out, Tim grabs his phone and sends a message proposing a date.
Fingers crossed this time, fella!
