Actor Paddy Bever’s real life is worlds away from his turbulent character Max Turner on Coronation Street.
The star is at the centre of the ITV soap’s latest storyline, with Roy Cropper appearing to remember a significant moment in the disappearance of Lauren Bolton. Amid fears she’s been murdered, viewers are questioning if Max could be involved.
One fan said on social media site X last night: “Is Roy having visions from beyond the grave that Max murdered Lauren?”, while another wrote: “Why is Roy seeing Max?” As suspicion arises, the Mirror takes a look at Paddy’s life away from cameras…

Paddy found a passion for the arts as a member of Cheadle Hulme Players Youth Theatre before going on to join the Manchester School of Acting. Then he made his TV debut on the cobbles in September 2021 as the new face of David Platt’s stepson. He took on the role from Harry McDermott, who played Max from 2010 onwards but left the soap to carry on his acting studies.
Paddy previously told Manchester Evening News that he was still doing his A-level exams when he auditioned for the role. He said: “I had an A-level the next day so I made the decision not to revise for the A-level and focus on the tape. I then didn’t hear anything for a month so I presumed I hadn’t got it and then I got called for a screen test which was so exciting.
“I was so nervous but when I got there it just struck me that everyone was so lovely. I did my screen test with Jack Shepherd then a week later I found out I’d got the role which was amazing. I also somehow got an A in the A-level I didn’t revise for so it all worked out ok in the end!” Despite playing a teen, Paddy is actually 20 years old in real life.

“I even know tens of people this has happened to at a very young age and it really does happen. What could make someone more vulnerable than a photo of that? I don’t know. I think it’s a turning point, I really do.”
Max then went on to have beef with his former girlfriend Lauren – who is now missing – but thankfully, the pair have a close friendship away from the camera. Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren, posted a snap of them together on her Instagram Story after the British Soap Awards last year and penned: “I love you.”
Then in June, they jetted off on a ‘perfect’ holiday together. Sharing a photo from the airport on social media, Cait wrote: “It’s time for our jollies bby @paddynever.” She then uploaded some selfies of the pair loving life with a stunning sunset in the background.
