Coronation Street star Chris Harper has revealed more about Lauren Bolton’s whereabouts.

Lauren was thought to have been attacked and killed in a shocking turn of events, with Roy Cropper currently in the frame for her ‘murder’. DS Swain and her team investigated the disappearance, finding a chair leg in her flat, which they are convinced is the murder weapon. They also found lots of blood all around the flat, and have taken the conclusion, she was badly attacked and killed.

Chris Harper – who plays Nathan Curtis – has returned to his role, and next week, Bethany Platt is left reeling when she comes across her abuser, who is working on a nearby building site. Knowing her own history with him, she becomes convinced that Nathan is the man who abused and killed her – but is she right, or is Nathan innocent in this particular case?

“All the signs are there – the similarities in Lauren’s behaviour before she disappeared, her vulnerability, all really ring bells with what Bethany went through,” Chris – who plays Nathan – explained of the possibility that Nathan has been abusing Lauren.

“It wasn’t so long ago that Bethany was at a petrol station on a motorway about to be smuggled over to Europe, so we know that Nathan’s ruthless and things could have been even worse for Bethany. I think if you watch that slippery slope, you recognise the behaviour. You recognise the situation she was in, and it could definitely be Nathan who’s been involved in one way or another.”

Could Lauren have suffered the same devastating fate as Bethany – and could this be a clue as to where Lauren is?

Speaking about his return to the show, Chris said: “I was emotional when I was told about Nathan’s potential return. During the 18 months he was in it before, hundreds of people shared with me how the storyline reflected something they, or someone they loved, had lived through. It remains important to keep them in mind as we continue Bethany’s story.

“Once again, I am grateful for the ongoing support of Barnardo’s, NSPCC, and all the people who trusted me last time. We have another chance to raise an issue that affects so many lives, so often shrouded in shame.”

Discussing his character Nathan, Chris added: “I do love playing Nathan though. He is funny, deceitful, slippery, manipulative and ruthless. Now he is also under a lot of pressure too. This new storyline is absolutely full of twists. It really is good to be back on the hallowed cobbles. So much has happened since we saw Nathan sent to prison, but Coronation Street is a constant.”
