Coronation Street’s James Cartwright has landed a fresh acting role beyond the cobbles – and he’s appearing alongside his well-known father.

The actor joined the ITV soap last year portraying Theo Silverton, the new romantic interest of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) – and it wasn’t long before chemistry sparked between them.

However, before long, Theo’s genuine nature and true colours emerged as Theo had been manipulating and mistreating Todd for months, in an attempt to dominate every facet of his existence.

What’s more, the mistreatment has also intensified to physical attacks. This week, though, following Theo brandishing a knife at Todd, the couple ended their relationship.

And in Thursday’s episode (March 12), Theo overheard Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) informing George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) that James Bailey (Jason Callender) spent the night on Todd’s sofa, leaving Theo incensed, reports the Daily Star.

Additionally, Theo is amongst the five potential casualties who could be getting murdered next month, following the flash-forward instalment that broadcast earlier this year. And whilst it hasn’t yet been verified whether the actor Theo James is departing the soap, he has already secured his next acting project.

James is featuring in an forthcoming comedy-horror film titled Bjorn of the Dead. He is portraying Benny in the production, which follows an ABBA tribute act that battles zombies at the onset of an apocalypse.

“I see it being a cult classic. It’s brilliant, it’s funny, it’s charming,” James recently divulged to Absolutely Magazine. He continued: “It stars Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer from Iron Maiden, and the actual Bjorn from ABBA slaying zombies and me, so it’s a comedy-rock-horror from the brilliant mind of Austin Dickinson, who has conceived this fantastic film. It’s going to be incredibly fun.”

Jim is a successful author and playwright who has produced a wealth of work over the years, most notably the 1992 play The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, which was transformed into a 1998 film featuring Jane Horrocks and Michael Caine.

He has also penned several episodes of his son James’ soap Coronation Street, and in 2016, Jim even made an appearance on the cobbles, playing Nigel, the former husband of Nessa (Sadie Shimmin), who is the sister of Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hall).
