Gary supported his then-partner in the aftermath of her daughter Bethany (Lucy Fallon) being groomed and abused by vile Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) and his friends.

Ultimately, Sarah dumped Gary following his involvement with loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) and affair with Nicola Rubinstein (Nicola Thorp).

In recent weeks, Sarah has gone through a tumultuous time.

Her lover Damon Hay (Ciarán Griffiths) was arrested by armed police, put behind bars and cruelly dumped Sarah when she visited him in prison.

Gary intervenes after Sarah's behaviour sparks concern

This turned out to be Damon’s final appearance in the show, while the character was later sentenced off-screen to serve six years in prison.

In scenes set to air next week, Sarah will spark concern from ex-fiance Gary after he sees her knocking back wine at The Rovers Return.

After seeing Sarah preparing to take another bottle home with her, Gary goes over to intervene.

While the spoilers don’t yet reveal exactly what happens next, the following episode has a tense atmosphere – and clearly Gary is shocked by what he has seen.

Gary’s wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) comes home to find the pair looking shifty.

After she positions a discreet camera, Maria later watches on her phone as Gary sees Sarah out.

In the end, the former couple hug and agree to keep their distance from now on.

Although Maria, who is covertly watching, doesn’t seem happy with what she’s seeing…
