Coronation Street is set for explosive scenes on Wednesday night as Maria Connor is left devastated.

Soap watchers will recall that earlier this year, Gary Windass and Sarah Platt had a drunken heart-to-heart after a stressful time for them both on the cobbles. Gary had been worrying about his wife Maria and stepson Liam following the latter’s harrowing bullying ordeal.

Meanwhile, Sarah was devastated over the breakdown of her marriage to Adam Barlow following her affair with Damon Hay and Damon leaving the cobbles due to receiving a six-year sentence after an armed robbery. Gary and Sarah, who are exes, confided in each other as they has a drunken heart-to-heart at Gary and Maria’s flat.

After learning Damon had received a six-year sentence while at Gary’s flat, Gary hugged a crying Sarah to which she made a drunken pass at him and he rejected. In true soap style, to make matters even worse, Gary was left anxious after learning the moment had been captured on camera thanks to Maria putting up recording devices in a bid to monitor son Liam who has been struggling due to his bullying ordeal.

So far, the duo have managed to keep the moment a secret but things take an explosive turn on Wednesday (8 May). In upcoming scenes this evening, Maria is heartbroken when she figures out something has gone on between partner Gary and his ex Sarah. The betrayal comes about when Maria returns home to find Sarah and Gary looking shifty.

Feeling suspicious, she places a camera on the side in a bid to find out the truth and sure enough she watches Gary seeing Sarah out, where they hug and agree to keep their distance from now on. Maria watches them on her phone and her face darkens at what she sees…

However, despite being in love with Gary, Sarah had no choice but to dump him after his devastating affair with Nicola and involvement with loan shark Rick Neelan. Due to their irreconcilable differences, their relationship ended but Sarah has kept his secrets with the duo supporting each other in times of need.
