Coronation Street spoilers: Simon’s sinister end ‘sealed’ as the cult claims his life

Troubled Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) is feeling more alone than ever before in Coronation Street as mum Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) is drawn deeper into a cult.

After Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) left Weatherfield for a new life overseas, Simon felt isolated and incredibly sorry for himself.

Struggling to find a focus, Simon found a distraction by drinking and partying with his friends.

He got a wake up call over his reliance on alcohol when he crashed a car while under the influence, and put Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) in hospital. However, despite this ordeal making Simon feel incredibly guilty, he still seems to be in the same position in upcoming episodes.

At the start of the week, Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) finds a forum for ex-members of the Altovalent Institute, the same one Leanne is interested in.

She tries to show Leanne a post she’s seen and suggests the Institute is not to be trusted, only to discover it’s been taken down for legal reasons.

Later, when Leanne calls Rowan (Emryhs Cooper), he gets inside her head by saying the post was written by his bitter ex, and then offers Leanne the chance to leave the cobbles for a while and tour the Institute.

In the week, Leanne explains to Simon that she connected with a guy called Jared at the Institute who’d be happy to help him set up his food delivery app.

When Simon then reveals Jared has agreed to meet him and he’ll need to borrow some money, Leanne is delighted, but Toyah can’t help but feel it’s another scam.

As Leanne prepares to leave for the retreat, Toyah begs her to reconsider, but Leanne is adamant she needs to go.

When Leanne eventually departs, Simon is hurt to realise she left without even saying goodbye.

Having bunked off work, Simon drowns his sorrows, throws up in Tim Metcalfe’s (Joe Duttine) cab, and then does a runner without paying.

With Toyah and Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) now left to look after Simon, how will this development impact his upcoming departure from the cobbles?

Will the cult be the reason we see the back of Simon?
