Lauren (Cait Fitton) was visited at home by a mystery person who viewers didn’t see.

Meanwhile her employer, beloved café owner Roy Cropper (David Neilson) has been charged with her murder, much to the outrage of his family, friends and neighbours.

However, the ITV soap may have teased how the actual culprit for Lauren’s disappearance could be uncovered.

Dee Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), Roy’s lawyer, told his loved ones that messages had been found from Lauren’s O-Vidz account, with correspondence between her and her subscribers.

With this, Dee Dee presented a theory that the person who possibly kidnapped or killed Lauren may have been messaging her.

In terms of possible suspects, viewers have also yet to learn the identity of Lauren’s ex who had been harassing her.

Could messages that have come to light be a lifeline for Roy?

Dee Dee was convinced the messages would confirm Roy was not the guilty party, due to their contents and spelling mistakes – typos which could give away who the person responsible actually is.

Armed with the messages, Dee Dee went to DS Swain (Vicky Myers) and urged the detective to see them as evidence.

Swain suggested there was nothing concrete in the messages to warrant releasing Roy and that they did not confirm a killer.

Unwilling to give up, Dee Dee said she would pass the messages on to a contact with The Met in London who had experience in that field.

Passionate Coronation Street viewers took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and made their thoughts clear on the developments.

One wrote: “I know they love making cops inept on these joints but DS Swain is the most inept cop ever. A perp could come in and confess with incontrovertible proof of their guilt and she’d still find a way to NOT arrest them.”

Another penned: “Does Dee Dee fancy pointing out the irony of DS Sawin saying that she is clutching at straws? #Corrie.”

A third added: “One of the worst police officers – the dreadful DS Swain #Corrie.”
