ITV Coronation Street death rumbled for Roy Cropper as fans worried

Coronation Street fans have been left worried for Weatherfield legend Roy Cropper - who has been targeted in prison - but who is really responsible for Lauren's murder?

Coronation Street fans have been left devastated and fearing for Roy Cropper – as they’re convinced he’s going to die.

Roy has been in prison for months after Lauren Bolton went missing and he was blamed for her disappearance and possible death. He is innocent of the crime, but DS Swain is convinced it must be him.

However, he is now being targeted in prison by Griff – who thinks he is responsible for what happened to Lauren. He has been trying to get Roy on his own, and eventually convinced Roy’s cellmate to lure him to the library so he could sneak into Roy’s cell.

It’s clear Griff has a dangerous plan – but could this be the end for Roy, and is this an exit for the Weatherfield legend? Roy is clearly at risk now Griff has got his hands on him, but will he make it through, or is this the end of the road?

David Neilson – who plays Roy – previously admitted he finds the whole storyline a big responsibility.

“It’s a compliment but at the same time a responsibility. I do like when Roy is doing bits and pieces in scenes with other people and I get to spend time with my family and see my grandchildren but you never know when things are suddenly going to get busier and I’m prepared for that. When you get a part in a play you know the whole part,” he said.

“Here you don’t know what is going to happen to your character. I don’t know the whole story, I like to see how things pan out when I get the scripts. What I do like about it is the way it has gone back 29 years to 1995 when Roy first arrived. It is reminiscent of that early Roy Cropper when people were suspicious of his behaviour and thought he was creepy. And all this history will be used against him, things that have happened in the past like abducting their foster child. All that makes this storyline interesting.”

Of his character, he added: “I respect the character a lot, I think he’s made a difference and I put a lot into it. He came in as ‘Creepy Cropper’.. I remember when I first came into the show and I was in York somewhere and there was a couple chatting and one said to the other ‘There’s that weirdo from Coronation Street’ and I thought wow.

“Then of course over time he sort of evolved and people seem to like him and I love him. I think what people love is his struggle with life and this is part of his struggle. He’s sort of on the ropes with this one. But he hasn’t got any choice, it has happened to him again. He continues to do what he thinks is the right thing, he can’t do any other. Now that’s the problem. If he could, I think he would. That’s what everyone around him is telling him to do, to behave like others, be more what other people would consider ‘normal’ but he’s not like that. He can’t be like that. Otherwise he wouldn’t be in this situation and it is only going to get worse.”
