Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) made her big return to Coronation Street tonight – and was devastated to see that son Simon (Alex Bain) was packing his bags to leave.

The street stalwart left the cobbles a few weeks ago after cult leader Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) put forward the idea of staying at one of The Institute’s retreats.

Just exactly what these events entail, we’re not quite sure!

Sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) and fiancé Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) are aware of how damaging and exploitative the cult is, but Leanne has been completely manipulated into thinking it’s a self-help community.

In tonight’s (3rd June) episode, Leanne finally returned to Victoria Court only to discover that Simon was preparing to move away.

He explained that he was going to work with dad Peter (Chris Gascoyne) on board a yacht, and she was furious that nobody had told her – except they couldn’t.

Whilst away, she’d shut off from the world and hadn’t been using her mobile phone.

Later, at the bistro, Toyah and Nick managed to talk some sense into her and she apologised to Simon for her actions, and watched as he drove off in the back of a taxi.

An emotional mess, she ran home and opened her laptop, telling someone on the other side that she now Simon’s gone, she feels completely alone, and wishes she could be with them, to hold them.

Who could she be talking to?

In upcoming scenes, Leanne continues to shut off from her family, and will once again open her computer, and share a smile with the person she’s chatting to.

Before long, Toyah catches her in the act, and Nick races home to find her hand in hand with Rowan on the sofa.

Is she having an affair?
