Two Coronation Street legends rushed to hospital after tragedy strikes
There are busy times ahead for Weatherfield General, as two of Coronation Street’s most beloved characters find themselves in need of medical help.
Corrie legend Ken Barlow (William Roache) faces a life-changing injury when he falls down the stairs. After attending Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows)’s birthday drinks, Ken begins to feel unwell and makes his excuses and heads home.
Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) has been talking to him at the event, mainly trying to make amends for his reckless actions in giving the police a made-up story about the Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) case.
This led to Ken’s son Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) being a suspect in the crime. Bobby apologises to Ken for what he did and can’t help noticing Ken is looking a bit unsteady.
Concerned, he later calls on Ken to check he’s OK and is horrified to find him lying at the bottom of the stairs after a fall. Ken is immediately rushed to hospital.
Later he’s told that his injuries mean that he’s going to need full-time care at home as he recovers, and Steve (Simon Gregson) promises the family will all rally round. As if Ken didn’t have enough to cope with, the thought of his family fussing around him, and of losing his independence, is a hard thing to take.
Meanwhile there’s horror for Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) when she gets a call to say that her sister Leanne (Jane Danson) has been involved in a motorbike accident.
Before that, Toyah and Leanne argue as it becomes clear that Leanne told creepy Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) about her dead baby, Rose. In the wake of this Nick (Ben Price) issues an ultimatum – either Leanne cuts all ties with Rowan and the Institute or their relationship is over.
Leanne says she’s going away for a few nights because she finds Nick’s negativity stifling, and adds that Rowan is finding her somewhere to stay.
Later, Rowan calls at the bistro on his motorbike and hands a spare helmet to Leanne, saying he has a surprise for her.
They head to a hotel restaurant where Rowan introduces Leanne to Willow, the CEO of the Institute, over a video call. He tells Leanne that she’ll soon be in a position to recruit new members to the organisation herself and Leanne’s flattered.
Back in Coronation Street Toyah is setting off for her court case against the Institute when she gets the phone call to say that Leanne has been in a motorbike accident. Panicking, Toyah rushes straight to A&E.
How badly hurt is Leanne?
