Coronation Street favourite ‘set to be jailed’ as she fails to show up to court
Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor)’s attempt to open her sister Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) eyes about the dangers of the Institute cult have already caused her massive problems in Coronation Street – and in coming episodes she faces jail because it.
Since Leanne first became interested in the cult-like Institute and the charismatic Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), Toyah has seen her sister become more wrapped up in the organisation.
We know that Toyah is correct in her suspicions, as Rowan has already secretly recorded Leanne confession dark deeds from her past – obviously not the action of someone with her best interests at heart.
Toyah has posted negatively about the Institute online, much to Leanne’s fury. In a shock move recently Toyah discovered that the Institute was fighting back by suing her for defamation.
Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) advised Toyah that the best course of action would be to take down her online posts and write a retraction and apology, hoping that the organisation would drop its case.
Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) agreed that would be the best course of action and begged Toyah to at least consider it.
In upcoming episodes Toyah receives a delivery of yellow roses, and realises they must have come from Rowan.
The significance of the roses means that she strongly suspects that Leanne told Rowan about her dead baby, Rose. Leanne eventually admits she did tell Rowan – but he has denied that he told the police about Toyah burying her dead baby.
Toyah can’t believe that her sister trusted Rowan with such private and devastating information and they have a massive argument.
Nick supports Toyah and warns Leanne that her involvement with the Institute is putting her family at risk.
Later, Leanne, Toyah and Nick are at the bistro when Rowan arrives on his motorbike. he hands his spare helmet to leanne and says he has a surprise for her. They head off, leaving an angry Toyah and Nick to deal with the lunchtime rush without her.
As Toyah prepares to leave for her Institute court case, her phone rings. She’s shocked as she’s told it’s the local hospital – Leanne has been involved in a motorbike accident.
She rushes to the hospital, all thoughts of court pushed aside by her fears for her sister. Will her failure to turn up to court land her in severe legal trouble?
And how badly hurt is Leanne?
