Coronation Street legends fight tears as they share grief over devastating deaths
Coronation Street legends Toyah Battersby and Sarah Platt (Georgia Taylor and Tina O’Brien) fought back tears in recent scenes as they discussed the tragic loss of their babies.
Last week, Toyah was arrested for murder after the body of her baby was found, and news of her arrest soon hit the cobbles.
Toyah gave birth to her stillborn daughter Rose two months early, after a harrowing rape ordeal in 2001, which she explained to police during her interrogation.
Several weeks ago, internet sleuths began digging up the park where Rose was buried, in the hopes of finding evidence of Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder.
Terrified that they would disturb Rose’s resting place, Toyah lashed out at them, which landed her in trouble with the law.
Having been released pending further enquiries, Toyah was shocked to receive a visit from Sarah, who soon revealed that Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) had told her what had happened.
Though Toyah expected judgement, Sarah was incredibly understanding, pointing out that she knew what it was like to lose a baby.
Sarah had a baby with Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in 2004, who she named Billy. However, having been born prematurely, Billy sadly only lived for three days.
Sarah admitted that she understood how Toyah must have felt, and explained that, even 20 years on, she still thinks about Billy every day.
Toyah revealed that she just wanted to be able to give baby Rose a proper funeral, having secretly buried her in the park after she died.
As Toyah worried about what other people would think of her after discovering the truth, Sarah comforted her, and assured her that anyone who thought badly of her wasn’t worth knowing.
It was clear that Toyah felt much better after their conversation, as she revealed to Nick that speaking to Sarah had really helped.
