Coronation Street legend confirms soap return date after exit from cobbles
Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver has spilled the beans on her much-anticipated return to the cobbles next month.
The 60-year-old actress, famed for her role as Eileen Grimshaw since 2000, took a sabbatical from the ITV soap to tread the boards in Sister Act, the musical. But now, she’s gearing up for a dramatic comeback in July.
Chatting recently, she confessed: “I’ve finished Sister Act but I’m missing everybody hugely. I had the most wonderful time doing that show I hadn’t been on stage for 30 years.

“I just thought ‘I’m going to embrace this, I’m going to do it’. Even though I was scared and even though it was the unknown, I thought ‘Nope, this is fabulous. Let’s just go for this’ and I did.”
In a natter with OK!, she gushed: “I had the most amazing time. We played to full houses everywhere and had standing ovations. I will miss everybody hugely but you’ve got to finish one thing to start the next thing.”
And it seems the stage has rekindled an old flame, as she’s not closing the curtain on theatre just yet. She added: “I definitely think I’ll do more on stage. The stage is where I started. Theatre’s always been my first love. Now I’ve been back, that’s not going to be my last. But I’ll be heading back to Coronation Street soon. I’m having a little holiday and then I will be heading back into Corrie in July so they can see me back there. I will be back.”
Sue recently opened up about her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis, admitting that it initially scared her. She previously stated: “I always say that I don’t live with diabetes, diabetes lives with me. So I live my life as anyone else. I have a busy life and I get on with it,” the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star explained.
She added: “When I was first diagnosed, it scared me. Then since I started using Dexcom, it took away all of the guessing, all of the unknown. I’ve always had my HbA1c and I’ve always been under a consultant and monitored everything, but it’s just taken a bit of pressure off. I can see what my averages are. I can see what my patterns are. It’s taken away a lot of that worry for me.”
Earlier this year in January, fans were stunned by the star’s transformation after she showcased her three stone weight loss. A few months prior, she was compelled to debunk rumours that she had used diet gummies to achieve her weight loss.
Addressing her followers on Instagram, she said: “I’m really, really sad that I have to actually make this video. I’ve had quite a lot of messages over the last couple of weeks asking me about Keto gummies. There’s obviously some scam going around saying that I lost weight using Keto gummies… well it’s cr*p. It’s a scam. And if you’ve been taken in by it I’m so, so sorry. It’s outrageous. I just want you to know that I would never, ever advocate anything like that.”
Instead, she revealed that her secret was cutting out booze, as she’d been knocking back “loads of wine” during the pandemic. Opening up to The Sun, she said: “I went on HRT about a year and a half ago and realised I should have done that about five years ago.”
She further explained: “I was walking around in a bit of a fog and then I literally made some massive changes. Then I did dry January and I thought: ‘I wonder what life would be like if I stopped completely?'”
