Coronation Street fans have demanded for ITV writers to include the unveiling of secret Platt sister Charlotte before long-term soap star Gail leaves the cobbles behind her forever
Coronation Street fans have begged for unseen character Charlotte Platt to be unveiled before Gail Platt exits the soap for good.
The idea came to light online after it was announced that actress Helen Worth will be leaving the cobbles behind her. The announcement came as quite a shock to avid fans.
Helen, 73, has been somewhat of a staple on the programme since 1974, but after five decades with ITV, she’s decided it’s time to bid her co-stars farewell. It’s unknown how Gail will depart the programme but what we do know is it’ll be a big storyline for the Platts.
With much speculation about Helen’s alter-ego Gail’s exit, who has devoted 50 years of service to Coronation Street, it’s no wonder tongues have started to waggle with regards to what might be in store for her family over the coming weeks.
One Reddit user demanded for bosses to consider unveiling secret Platt sister Charlotte – which seemed to go down well with other users too. Floating the idea of Charlotte, they wrote: “I think they should introduce her.”
The user continued to explain: “If you don’t know, she’s Martin’s daughter with Robyn. We’ve never seen her onscreen. I think it would be good to have David’s sister on the show, she was born in 2006 so would be 19 now.”
“I’m sure Sarah would consider her a sibling, not sure about Nick though,” concluded the Corrie fan. One person chimed back wanting to bring back an old face.
They responded: “And Joshua Peacock. Watching classic Corrie the last few days I realised how much Fred and Ashley brought to the show. Seeing Josh would be a nice link.”
Another comment read: “Why use an established character when you can just retcon a child that’s never been mentioned before? It’s all the rage at the moment.”
Others, however, were not as keen. One person penned: “Probably not, the show like making David feel alienated as possible, I mean every male friend he’s had has left him.”
Another user also wasn’t keen, writing: “She’ll hardly be an easy-going drama-free character) teen/early 20-something….” Charlotte is the daughter of Martin Platt – Gail’s ex-husband. Charlotte would therefore also be the half-sister of David – who is played by Jack P Shepherd.
While Gail is not Charlotte’s biological mother the revelation would no doubt cause an absolute storm on the soap, making for a possibly very dramatic exit for the long-standing cast member who is due to walk away soon. The announcement of her departure landed earlier this month.
She concluded: “The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”
