Coronation Street fans call for an iconic killer to return and it’s more possible than ever
Coronation Street fans are desperate to see the return of iconic character Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) following the arrival of his son Bobby (Jack Carroll).
Bobby made his way to Weatherfield towards the end of last year. After introducing himself to his auntie Carla (Alison King), Bobby’s home life was thrown up in the air when his mum threw him out, forcing him to move in with Carla.
Suffice to say Bobby is definitely a troublemaker. He enjoys making a joke, and has shown he’s a bit of a bad influence on Simon (Alex Bain).
At the start of this week, however, we saw a completely different side to the new face.
After overhearing gossip about his dad Rob, Bobby visited Carla and demanded to know the truth about his dad.
Carla explained to Bobby that Rob is behind bars after murdering a young woman called Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).
Rob pushed Tina off the builder’s yard balcony and bludgeoned her around the head with a metal pipe ten years ago, ensuring she would never live to expose him and then-girlfriend Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) for selling stolen goods in their second hand shop Barlow’s Buys.
Rob has been mentioned a lot ever since Bobby arrived on the cobbles. With this causing fans to reminisce about his time on the show, many have been left hoping we may see him again soon.
Taking to social media, a soap fan wrote: ‘After all this talk tonight…Rob has to be coming back in 2024 he just has to be!’.
Also feeling hopeful, and raising a very interesting point about Lauren’s (Cait Fitton) ongoing storyline, this X/Twitter user said: ‘and when lauren’s boyfriend turns out to be rob? then what’.
So, is it possible?
A few years ago, we saw Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) break out of prison and return to the cobbles – so it’s perfectly possible for something similar to happen to Rob.
Speaking of Harvey, the murderer is currently working with Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) on an appeal case, believing there’s a chance Natasha Blakeman’s murder could be pinned on someone else.
So in short – yes. Where Coronation Street is concerned, putting a character in prison certainly doesn’t mean we won’t ever see them again.
But will the mentions of Rob really lead to a comeback?
