Big twist as Coronation Street confirms major fan theory in killer Joel story

Joel leans against a wall in Coronation Street

After much speculation from Coronation Street fans, the teen who is eager to bring down killer Joel Deering (Calum Lill) is none other than DS Lisa Swain’s (Vicky Myers) daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin)!

Last week, we saw the mysterious youngster eye-up Joel at the police station whilst he chatted to her mate Sabrina (Luana Santos), and it was clear that she didn’t trust him.

Later, we saw Joel approach Sabrina at the precinct, and began throwing a few suggestive comments her way, as she basked in the attention.

It became clear that he was lining her up to be his next victim, after murdering Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) back in February.

As the two chatted, he offered to make their coffees Irish by adding whiskey to the drinks, something which piqued her pal’s interest. Why would a man of apparent trust be offering alcohol to a young girl?

Sabrina felt she’d allowed her naivety to get the better of her, and handed over Joel’s business card to her mate to be binned, but she pocketed it instead.

We then saw the newbie confront the sinister solicitor head-on, asking for money in exchange for her silence after what he did to Sabrina – and everyone became convinced that she was Swain’s daughter, whose arrival has been teased for weeks.

In tonight’s (28th June) instalment, we saw Joel and oblivious fiancee Dee-Dee enjoy drinks with their family at the Viaduct Bistro to celebrate their engagement, but it became apparent that he had other things on his mind.

After another text from the girl asking for cash, he tried to make his excuses but was unable to get away – and then she turned up.

Pretending to Dee-Dee that she was a troubled client, she agreed to allow him some time to speak to her one-on-one, in a hope it would clear his diary for the rest of the day.

Charging outside, he ushered the girl onto Brewery Lane behind Underworld, and told her that if she continued to make ‘false allegations’, she would regret it.

Quickly bundling her some cash, he promised to get her some more and she headed off.

Fans suspicions were confirmed at the end of the episode, when we saw the girl eating fish and chips in the park. Swain walked over, and addressing her as Betsy, told her to go home.

Could Betsy be the one to crack the case before her mum does?
