Carla Connor and DS Lisa Swain ‘set to discover the vile truth’ about Joel in Coronation Street
Carla Connor and DS Lisa Swain (Alison King and Vicky Myers) may be set to uncover the truth about Joel Deering (Calum Lill), after Betsy Swain’s (Sydney Martin) phone raised suspicions in recent Coronation Street scenes.
Betsy started work experience at the factory under Carla’s watchful eye, after she promised new bestie Lisa that she’d give the troubled teen a chance.
Despite Betsy’s impressive skills with a showing machine, Carla was unimpressed by how much of a distraction her phone proved to be.
When Betsy admitted she was texting a boy, Carla promised not to tell her mum, as long as she put the device away and focused more on sewing.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough of a deterrent for Betsy, and soon Carla was forced to confiscate her mobile.
Later, Lisa arrived at the factory to check on Betsy, who’d failed to answer her texts.
Carla was quick to explain why, and had soon handed the phone back to Betsy – but not before Lisa had caught a glance of the screen.
She was quick to question who ‘JD’ was after spotting his texts, though Betsy remained evasive.
Viewers will know that JD is actually Joel, who Betsy has been blackmailing.
Betsy is one of the only people who is onto Joel, having noticed his creepy behaviour towards Sabrina Adetiba (Luana Santos). After realising that he had got Sabrina drunk, Betsy demanded money in exchange for her silence.
However, sinister Joel is more than just the creep Betsy believes him to be. In fact, he is the real killer of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who went missing earlier this year.
Could Betsy be in more danger than she realises?
Betsy’s mum Lisa has made it her mission to find the culprit, but so far she has been totally barking up the wrong tree. Could her and Carla’s curiosity over Betsy’s new ‘boyfriend’ lead her to the truth?
Actress Vicky Myers has revealed that she’d love Lisa to be the one to catch Joel out.
‘I could only begin to imagine how Lisa would feel about that what with Joel being in a similar profession, and a position of trust,’ she told Metro.co.uk.’That abuse of trust and power, targeting vulnerable women – including her own daughter – she would be fierce with that.
‘Not solely for the women he’s groomed but the women he’s abused full stop like Dee-Dee and Emily. There’s a whole host of women. I feel that female empowerment and the rise up from that, the unity it will bring, will be terrific. For him to get his comeuppance either individually or collectively.’
