Toyah’s dangerous plot to bring down Rowan confirmed in Coronation Street
Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) developed a new plan to try and bring down cult leader Rowan (Emryhs Cooper) in Monday’s (July 8) episode of Coronation Street.
Last week, Toyah was rushed to hospital after brother-in-law Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) found her collapsed in agony at home.
Once under the care of medics, she received some bombshell news – that she was apparently pregnant, with Nick being the father, following the pair’s recent nights of passion behind Toyah’s step-sister Leanne’s (Jane Danson) back.
After the initial shock, they both relished the idea of parenthood, particularly Toyah, who’d been through seven unsuccessful rounds of IVF in the hopes of having a child. On Friday, however, she had a scan that revealed she is not pregnant after all.
Toyah was told she received a false positive on her pregnancy test as a newly-discovered growth on her ovary was altering the result.
In a further blow, Toyah was then told the growth could be ovarian cancer, and a biopsy would be required.
As Toyah and Nick reeled from the news, Leanne went off to attend a session with Rowan, believing it would put her in a better position to help her sister.
In tonight’s episode, Leanne told Nick that she would spend the day supporting Toyah. Nick was a little concerned and reminded Leanne that it actually involved being there for her sister – not saying she would and then disappearing to see Rowan instead.
Leanne was certain she’d stick to the plan but then she received a call, which revealed she’d have to attend a ‘new taster’ meeting for The Institute.
When she broke the news to Toyah, Leanne was surprised when her sibling said she would go along as well.
After the meeting, Leanne was completely taken aback when Toyah revealed she was starting to understand the group a little more. She said it features CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and can understand why it would help people who had been through trauma.
Back at home, after Leanne updated Nick on their afternoon, he was left puzzled by Toyah’s sudden change in view towards Rowan’s cult.
When Leanne left the flat to go to the shop, Toyah then revealed her actual plan. She had realised in order to destroy Rowan, appearing ‘hostile’ wasn’t the right option.
By working on the inside, will this be enough for her to find the right information and bring him down?
