Corrie fans all have same complaint over soap’s newest addition

Coronation Street viewers have been left less than impressed with the latest addition to the cobbles as they flocked to social media to air their grievances about the 'boring' new character

Coronation Street fans have expressed their frustration as the soap introduces another young character to its roster.

The new addition, Betsy Swain, played by Sydney Martin, made her debut last month and it was later revealed that she is the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers). Betsy was introduced as a friend of Sabrina Adetiba (Luana Santos).

Viewers saw Besty become concerned when her friend started getting close to the creepy lawyer Joel Deering (Calum Lill), who, as regular viewers know, is a twisted psychopath involved in the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).

Betsy warned Sabrina about Joel’s true colours and has started to blackmail him, unaware of how dangerous he really is. Additionally, Betsy has landed work experience at Carla Connor’s (Alison King) factory.

However, in Monday’s episode (July 15), viewers watched as Betsy blackmailed Carla after seeing her retaliate against a nasty youth who had earlier harassed Roy Cropper (David Neilson) by knocking him off his bike and leaving him in the street reports Plymouth Live.

Betsy forced Carla into giving her a summer job at the factory in return for her silence about the hit-and-run incident. A rattled Carla gave in to Betsy’s demands, much to Betsy’s delight.

The soap’s loyal audience took to the platform formerly known as Twitter, now simply X, to vent their frustration over the new teenage character. One viewer blasted: “Sorry @itvcorrie introducing another blond teen with an attitude is a terrible idea, getting very boring now.”

Echoing the sentiment, another fan added: “I agree. The storylines stink of desperation. So many real life situations that could be scripted which would make Coronation Street a pleasure to watch again. Latest storylines make it predictable and boring. Time to get real.”

A third unimpressed fan remarked: “I know we need younger characters but why do you insist on constantly introducing revolting teenage characters? Not that fantastic an example to anyone young who’s watching. Can we have someone nice for a change? “.

One critic didn’t hold back, saying: “Uncredulous naff storyline, especially with this spoilt teen.” And yet another viewer complained: “Another awful character is yet again introduced with another ridiculous storyline, this criticism isn’t aimed at the actress herself in any way.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
