Leanne pushes Nick and Toyah together after big mistake in Coronation Street
Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) remains oblivious to Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) feelings for Toyah (Georgia Taylor) in Coronation Street soon.
Nick and Toyah started developing a romantic connection shortly after Toyah opened up to Nick about her stillborn baby called Rose.
As this storyline kicked off, Leanne began isolating herself by prioritising The Institute over just about everything. With Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) getting his claws in and manipulating Leanne into thinking his cult was a genuine, legit organisation, a lonely Nick started spending more time with his sister-in-law.
In the most recent development, Toyah made her way to the hospital all alone to receive some test results. With Leanne more interested in Rowan, Toyah didn’t want her support and sat in the waiting room by herself.
Moments later, Nick arrived and sat beside her.
A couple of days later, after Toyah received confirmation she has germ cell ovarian cancer, she went to the hospital alone again, and felt emotional to realise Nick wasn’t far behind her.
With Nick struggling over which Battersby to be with, you’d think distance between him and Toyah would be the best thing.
Next week though, they find themselves back in each other’s company.
When Leanne fails to offer any kind words before Toyah’s next appointment, Nick realises he’ll have to go along to the hospital to support her once more.
With Leanne so unbelievably focused on Rowan and The Institute, is it only a matter of time before Nick breaks the news and reveals he’s in love with someone else?
‘Interestingly, I think there are genuine feelings and certainly this is what [executive producer] Iain [MacLeod] told Ben, Jane [Danson] and I – he described it to me as love story’ Georgia told us.
‘It was very much, not just quick sex!’
She added: ‘Actually, weirdly, they’ve developed a real emotional connection and I think it started when Nick was the first person Toyah told about Rose and he was very gentle with her and understanding, and gave her the support that Leanne maybe didn’t.
‘I think it was when she saw a different side to Nick because prior to that, there’s just been a little bit of tension between them and historically, they really didn’t get on but she’s seen a different side to him, and that side is appealing.’
